I am trying to follow this tutorial:
http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/text-effects-tutorials/how-to-create-copper-photoshop-text-effect/

I have not really used photoshop before. Should I be able to just follow the steps?
There just seem to be some points where I just cannot see or understand what is happening.
For a start, do I start with a black image as it starts off as saying, or with the 'rusty' image?!

The feathering part I can't seem to get my head around either.

Sorry, maybe should give up:rolleyes:

Andrew
P.S I am using a trial of CS4

You start with your image :)

I think the feathering part , "Press Command + A to select all, then Command + Option + D to Feather the selection 50px." is referring to Photoshop on a Mac , and so "Command" is "Control" on windows and "Option" is , uhm , alt ?

You should just be able to follow the steps and never give up , PS is just a pain to get started with ;).

Starting a new document with black background is irrelevant as he then loads the rusty image, so you can have white/transparent or whatever. Just paste the rusty background image into your document.

Feathering just adds a transition between your layers, so they don't just suddenly stop and start into the next but instead gradient between the 2 or more layers. In this case he is creating a feathered selection of the entire rusty background, creates a new layer and fills the feathered selection with black to give a graduated black border.
Not particularly sure what you can't get you head around? If you can't follow his shortcuts, feather can be found under Select->Feather in the toolbars.

Feel free to ask about anything else you don't understand!

Thanks.
Think I'm getting there. lol
Found the issue with the feathering is CS4 doesn't work with 'Select All'.
I'll see how it turns out anyway....
