Up until recently I was using Vim but I've been trying out the trial of PHPStorm which so far is the best PHP IDE I've used, not sure if I'm going to buy it though.

Lots of the devs I know are using this - freelancers around Brighton. I myself cast another vote at the Eclipse PDT users.

used dreamweaver for years, netbeans now though, would use others but stuggle to find ones with build in ftp support ^_^ (upload on save) when not using SVN or something

Why would you want to upload on save? Why not develop and view locally and then deploy when you are ready?
