phpBB forum and bots?

I run a phpBB forum and i'm having to delete 10-15 bots a day.

The forum has been up around 3 years with nearly a thousand members. Fortunately I have to activate accounts before people can post so at the moment they just sign up but can't do anything.

Quite annoying having to delete them all the time though.

I've got the latest version installed. Anything I can do to stop them?

a few forums ive seen (phpBB ones) use one of those "type in the numbers you see on the left" mods. not sure what its called, but defo seen some available.

Hmmm, funny you should say that mate as i've been setting up a few forums at work and they all have that option, the visual confirmation code etc.

However my forum dosen't and theres nowhere to turn it on?

Argh 30 bots signed up last night!!!

Really starting to get annoyed.

Anyone got any ideas?

Have you looked here?

Theres a ton of security mods to block bots.........or failing that use my method as suggested in Beansprouts post
