im using a physics card that came with my pc and honestly its crap, i think its causing my pc to under perform seeing that im only getting 11k with stock 8800gtx 4gb ram and q6600-2.4ghz. i have read that having a physics card can decrease your fps by 20fps, just wondering if anyone else has experience this

I can't see how it would reduce your FPS. However, do a test. If you get 11k in 3dmark06 with the card in, try removing it and the drivers (probably by Add/Remove Programs) and do a re-test. Do you get the same result?

If so, I don't think the Physics card is causing you problems. How are games? Slow and jerky or can you crank all the graphics up without problems?

it depends on what game,

battlefield 2142,average 70fps all on max with 1280x1024,
fear i cant get past 22fps
cod2- 60fps all on max 65fps 1280x1024
the witcher medium/high 32fps 1280x1024
half life 2 isn't consistent average 112 fps all on max then drops to 20fps

btw my monitor is crap, max resolution is 1280x1024

most new games run fine, well at least the demos do. no jerky graphics on, time-shift, Jericho or company of heroes. cod4 is a bit but im averaging 75fps on max with the graphic card set to balanced

Well i think none of those games even support physics cards. Do you actually own a game which does? If no then uninstall the drivers and take it out as its a bit useless.

btw if i go into device manager, select the physics card and click disable will this have the same effect as taking the card out?

You might actually be CPU limitd at that clock considering your screen size and that great GFX you got in there, there'll probably be more people in here that know more about that, but it's an option. Also Vista will give lower scores than XP.

Waits for Pottsey to jump in and defend hes Physics Cards and then makes it harder for everyone else to read hes posts since he dosent seem to use the Quote button and then when we quote him, we have to delete all the so our posts dont look stupid.

OMG shut the hell up you paranoid loony :D. You should respect Pottsey for not turning round when people are being immature and nasty towards him and biting their heads off. Instead he gets good information to back up his claims without rising to people such as yourself. Oh!, the quote thing is just clutching at straws and pathetically at that.

rubbish. a q6600 at 2.4GHz can EASILY manage ANY game on the market.

if you do a restart afterwards, then yes.

No I dont experience a FPS loss.

So far none of the things you say are slow are affected by the PPU. Unless you have some faulty card I don’t see how you can blame the PPU. Even if it is faulty I don’t see how it could cause you to lose 3dmarks. Must be something else that is the problem. Have you tried the newest drivers and disableing it to be sure? http://www.ageia.com/drivers/drivers.html

PPU don’t decease your FPS by 20fps that’s a bunch of lies. Well it happened with some buggy drivers in 1 game for like half a second once but that was fixed.

EDIT: Have you got stuff like afx16, FSAA x8 or higher forced on in the 3dcard drivers?
EDIT2: Vsynic on? Check your CPU temp perhaps its overheating and slowing down.
GRAW 2 should run on extreme with your PC, not struggle on high. Has it ever worked or is this a new build?

I heard GRAW slows down with a physics card because having one lets you turn up settings which throw loads of debris out of explosions etc - so it is more taxing....
Obviously the PPU is meant to make this kind of thing faster, but I am yet to be convinced that they actually are worth the money...

Have there been any benchmarks of GRAW 2 since the performance fix’s for it? GRAW 2 doesn’t interest me so I never bothered to look at the FPS.

Physics card wont affect 3D Marks.

Seems low to me - I had my AMD system on a 8800GTS 320 getting more than that.
Don't pin all your hopes and dreams on 3DMark anyway. I've been getting lower scores than a lot of people on here but my game performance (Crysis for example) has been much better.
