physix cards?

hi does any one use em , what differance do they make , does it take a load of the gfx and pros? thanks , also does it make a diff, to 3d mark scores as 06 seems to feature it?>
 
They are not worth it at present and ATI & Nvidia are looking at implementing their own physics options, so sit tight & see what comes in a years or so time.

Me too the new Nvidia one that comes out this year is suppose to use one, and I think that ATI is going to make use of AMDs knowledge base... I didnt realise that ATI dont have their own FABs... shocking

It's the main reason they were so easily aquirable by AMD, really good partnership IMO.
 
At the moment we are in the classic chicken and egg situation with physx cards. No one buys them becuase there aren't the games out there to make use of them. Conversely no one makes the games as there are so few cards out there in PC's to make use of them. What the physx card offloads from the CPU it then loads back on with the greater detail and more objects.

ATI and Nvidia seem to be going with the HavokFX physics API which concentrates on making objects look more realistic, the PhysX API which is the physx card concentrates on object interaction rather then making the object look good.

I can't see either taking off until Microsoft sort out there physics addition to the DirectX API and give a common way for writing the physics into the game.

At the moment I wouldn't bother with buying one.

did anyone keep theirs?

don't forget one of the reasons for 3dFX falling over was because it bought its own fabs.
