PhysX Accelerator

It did help the gpu, but can't quite remember the full story.

This is now integrated on Nvidia graphics as they bought them out.

Pretty sure that the Ageia PPU is now pretty much defunct. The PCI interface limits the throughput compared to modern CUDA based PPU operations on current-gen nVidia GPUs, and I'm pretty certain that nVidia also stopped supporting the standalone product in driver updates.

well currently i have a single PCI -E motherboard running an ASUS 480 and i wanted to get an older card just to run PhysX i know i would have to get a new Mobo but i dont wanna spend too much, anyone recommend anything? :)

An 8800 will do, but I wouldn't do that if I was you. The 480 is already an incredibly fast card and a dedicated PhysX card might slow it down if it can't keep up with the 480.

I wouldn't bother buying a card for PhysX. I've got my old 8800GT in my new PC purely for PhysX reasons - but only because I had it lying around doing nothing.

When you next upgrade your main card from the 480, keep it - but by then, maybe the newer cards will be even quicker for PhysX than the 480 alone?

Currently playing Metro 2033 and can drop down to about 27 fps at 1680x1050 but my new monitor comes soon and i will be playing at 1080 with somke more PhysX enabled titles when they are released

Then I recommend another 480 in SLi instead if you want more FPS. But if you don't have an SLi capable board, then jump to the 580. Honestly, just wait for the next generation cards. Metro is a pretty demanding game after all...
