IF they take off, then you will need one because they are much better at what they do than a CPU. Like graphics, physics has a very high degree of paralellism involved in its computation, so it benefits from dedicated silicon rather than just using an all purpose piece of silicon like a CPU.Meths said:Why do we need these things anyway?
Aren't multi core processors meant to let the computer do stuff like this i.e. couldn't one core run the main thread of the game while the other does the physics stuff?
I thought we're meant to be getting quad core processors by the end of this year (there's one in the PS3 right?).
