Ignore it Pottsey, it is jeuvenile and not worth the effort.
I object to this. Asserting my opinion, based on all the evidence in front of me is juvenile?

I've read pretty much all the threads on Ageia as they've popped up on here, but just to make sure I'd not missed anything I've just gone through them all again. At one point pottsey changes from answering 'you work there' type questions with a simple 'no' to 'I've already proved I don't', but I've yet to see a single piece of evidence that he doesn't.

Even if he doesn't work for Ageia I still think my comment is fair as, if you spend hours publicly promoting a product then what difference is there between you and someone who is employed in their PR department? IMHO, whether you're paid to do it or not, if you act in a capacity equal to that of a PR manager then you've just enlisted yourself into their ranks. This is true of fanboys around the world.

Can we keep this thread on topic, there's no need to attack Pottsey, if he says he doesn't work for them then thats enough, he doesn't need to prove his background. If you don't agree with his points, feel free to argue them properly, but don't get personal or the thread won't last long (like a few other PPU threads we've already had).

I did write a long post but decide against it.
I used to be a forum regular and posted a lot before the last wipe. You can still see some of my old posts from October 2002 at http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=53156&highlight=pottsey. You have to have a far fetched imagination to think Ageia implanted me here 5 years ago ready for today. Yet some people think that. Next I work in the UK and help run a UK website as seen in my sig. I was part of the group that visit the Imgtech UK HQ and write up about it as well as the UK shows.

Ageia have nothing to do with the UK as far as I know and the company and all the staff are on the other side of the world.

What else can I do? How can I prove I don’t work for Ageia?
Using your logic I can say you work for ATI which is why you’re always so negative towards the PPU. Your trying to make it sound worse then it is ready for when your products comes out. But you can see how silly that sounds.

” if you spend hours publicly promoting a product then what difference is there between you and someone who is employed in their PR department?”
Just where have I been promoting it? I am not going around telling everyone to buy it or trying to put it in the best light possible and I am not posting all over in every tread saying buy it. That and I admit to its flaws. A number of times I said it’s not worth buying. Can you point to one bit of this tread where I have gone out and promoted it like a PR manager? Look at my first post and tell me what’s wrong with it?

Trying to get back on topic anyone heard anything about Havok? Not heard anything new for ages. Has it been delayed?

No, I've done a cursory search and come up with nothing. Seems pretty quiet, and I suspect it will stay that way, at least until the DX10/Vista thing settles.

which out of the ppus do you think are going to be most affective ati, havoc and ageia ?

A very loaded question that is and very difficult to give a clear answer. Each of the physics models work in a different fashion and produce different results, so a direct comparison is difficult if not impossible. Nvidia is also 'grooming' a physics hardware solution. Havok is a software implimentation.

so maybe we might have to either choose between the models or go with all three if their capable with one another

Even if all three was an option, which it isn't and will never be, its hardly the cost effective solution.

You might as well just buy a console and be happy with what physics they give you.

Sell that ppu

It’s just like the start of the 3Dcard war with all the different API’s. Just like back then no one could till who would end up on top the same applies for now. Take Nvidia no one would have ever thought they would have taken off after how utterly appalling there first card was. Yet they turned into a market leader even after eveyone thought they would fail. But Matrox who many thought would do well failed.

Personally I think things will move similar to the first 3Dcards and we will not know which physics option is best for a good 2 years. Right now I would forget about which is best and just buy your normal games and use what you can with your game.

If all your games are ATI havoc based you may as well use theirs. If it’s Ageia PPU use them. Its just to early to say which is going be better.

Pottsey makes valid arguments here, before i was thinking with a closed mind at how crap the ppu performed when it first came out, but then again im never the early adopter of the latest generation of technology. i wait for the teething problems to be solved first.

from what i can see in the city of villians tests the ppu is starting to pull its own weight. but the main thing im interested in knows is: is the ppu fully utilised in city of villians or is there still more untapped potential left inside it?

the ppu will become a good addition to the pc if something comes out and shows us proper use of the physics, such as deformable terrain etc.
