I'm wondering would it be possible to plug in a 3rd monitor to a physx card, as I'd rather not buy another 580 for SLI for a 3rd monitor, so if I could buy a cheaper Physx card I could save a fair amount of money :)
Thanks

I doubt you could use a PhysX card (I assume you mean another cheap GPU for PhysX calculations) to output to a third monitor as it's only taking the offloaded PhysX calculations and not rendering an image.

There's nothing to stop you using a second cheap GPU as a GPU to connect a third monitor but you couldn't use Nvidia Surround.

For nVidia surround you need SLI for 3 displays, however a 2nd PhysX card could also be used for 3 screen gaming with soft triple-head - at a bit of a performance hit.

what is decent card for physx cheap?

Don't bother with physx
It'll void your warranty
It is a waste of money
It'll void your overpriced, "premium" warranty
It'll void your warranty

Also, it's a waste of money

Dont get a dedicated physx card, unless you actually work with simulation software that uses it for a job. Other than that its completely useless, a singe 580 will do all the physx and game stuff by itself

The other alternative is to sell the GTx 580 and get a Galaxy MDT GTX 580 which can run 3 monitors.

Right I had a play around with trying to run a Nvidia as a physx card along side my 3870 FOR SCIENCE! I never got it to work but I could run a monitor from it in 2D mode, obviously not for gaming.

As far as cheep phyx cards go there is a youtube review knocking about comparing few nvidea cards I think a 550ti did pretty well, there was just a few fps difference going all the way upto a 580 with them all as a dedicated physx card. I imagine a 460 would be spiffing also. 8800/9800 used to be cheep cards for this but no idea if they still compare, 260/270 are probably worth a look too. Waist of money or not it's something I would like to play with even if its just to watch fluidmark run and see what it does for benches and the like :)
