Hi all.
I might have about 100 quid left over to spend on an upgrade. My new rig will be built for gaming on a 19 inch TFT monitor.
Iv'e thought about picking one of these up. Is it actually worth the money? If yes, which of the 3 models would you recomend?
Thanks.

Not at all, dont bother wasting your money on those card.

Were are now proberbly going to get a huge page of facts or get flamed by the well known Ageia & PowerVR fanboy hehe.

Only get one if your new rig is already extremely high end (8800GTX-SLI or better, 4gig+ RAM, Quad-core, X-Fi etc). Otherwise your money is better spent on core components.

Ive got the quad core, 4gb of am, and x-fi, but i'm not going to be going SLI.
The GTX's and Ultras are too much for the res i'm going to be playing at.
Thanks for the advice people.

Yes its worth it if you play a lot of PPU games. No its not worth it if you dont. It works well the problem is few games use it. Those that say no you shouldn’t get one should really be asking you what games you play.

The 3 cards are pretty much the same. The older Asus cards had twice as much ram on. All new cards are the same.

In all fairness to Pottsey, he does raise good points and construct good arguments, all without flaming, blicking, or losing his temper.

It depends how much £100 is worth to you!

If you need to spend it and you have a lot of money, u might aswell have one. In fact, you might aswell have 2. (sell later when you are skint from ovetr spending!)

Personally id rather spend £100 on something more useful, if computers maybe another hard drive

Its not worth it, theirs not a lot of ppu games worth playing out so playing a lot of ppu games is out of the question, were turning into the age where graphics cards can handle physics and octo core processors are being designed.

If you have every other peice of kit you want, have loads of money and cant think what to spend your money on, then get into watercooling, if your already into that then a ppu is a choice. I agree that at this moment though they are overpriced.

GPU physics seem to have failed. The hardware’s been out ages and there is still no software/game support. Not only have the first GPU physics games dropped support but Havok FX appears to have been scraped. I don’t believe we will see GPU physics any time soon not now the API is dead. I was looking forward to seeing it in action with Hellgate London.

Now that Intel are buying havok it will be interesting to see what happens here. Not sure if they will reaim it purely at multi-core cpu or they are supposed to be getting into discrete graphics so it could be revived with a vengance.
