I finally got a half decent photo after upgrading my lighting to a small rig RF 10C
still not great and you can see my camera/light reflecting on the gastor....
but you can see the beard and most details in the face
I could probably fix it with editing but too lazy.
and an almost decent one.
out of like 60 shots lol.....
it's so hard to tell what's actually in focus and since they are moving...

It's enjoyable to do but not easy, compounded by small subjects when the depth of field is so shallow to start with. I've been doing some stacking handheld with off-camera flash but I don't have a diffuser and my macro lens has since died (old Sigma 70mm EF mount with FE mount converter). The stacking is fun as I stick it on manual then using peaking to get my start point then move towards the subject firing a (20fps) burst. This is on an alpha1 with Godox flash/controller.
