If you could learn any language instantly overnight, no matter how difficult it is, which would you pick and why?

French, because France is a wonderful country and it's right on our doorstep. Plus it'll help me with my plan to conquer France and take it as my own. With their surfing and skiing and lovely food and weather and their beautiful women.

Japanese or Cantonese because they seem quite difficult to learn, and I plan on travelling a lot to Asia over the next few years to Japan/China on the list.

If I could learn any language instantly overnight then the difficulty of the language seems like it has been rather negated - it might be a tough night but after that you've learned it...

In which case I'd probably pick Mandarin or maybe Japanese as a shortcut to either would be rather nice.

If the question is which language do I particularly want to learn then currently I'm rather haphazardly trying to improve my French but it's not one that I feel I need to instantly be good at - it can be tricky to be sure but it's not as if there's a whole new alphabet to learn.

Polish so I can communicate with the girlfriends family a lot easier.

This reminded me of a post from another forum I saw the other day. If you tie the knot, don't fall for it!

My cousin also married a Polish girl and he asked me to be his best man.

The speech was coming along nicely until my sister intervened and mentioned it would be a good idea to include some Polish into the speech to impress her family at the reception.
I told her that would be a great idea and she proceeded to tell me her friend could translate a piece for me and a bonus it would be phonetic spelling to help me out on the big day.

Practice, practice, practice I had the speech nailed.

Big day arrived and it was my turn to talk.
All eyes were on me as I proceeded to the short Polish paragraph and talk gobblegook.

My sister knew nobody Polish.
What I had been practising for days was jibberish.
Can't watch the video without tears in my eyes laughing.

All the best.

Chinese. Half the internet is in Chinese, and they are set to take over the world anyway. They are just waiting on the Russians softening it up a bit.

Plus, I used to go to China a lot.
