Pick a second language

Would like to learn Russian as it sounds cool, but it would be a place i'd not likely visit, apart from maybe a tour of chernobyl one day.

I think French as they make some decent horror movies that would be great to watch without having to read the subs, plus it's a nice part of the world to visit.

German, as it'd help me greatly in my career. The only other EMEA market we operate in is Germany and I always feel bad only ever speaking to them in English.

Otherwise, probably French.

I've only been in Germany once, and briefly. Was mostly in Austria. Found that whilst most people were friendly, a few got irritated if we tried to speak German (albeit very, very badly). Most everyone spoke good English, and the few bad experiences we had kind of put me off trying to speak in German.

Also if we didn't understand in a split second what they were saying they'd immediately start translating into English :p Quite frustrating.

From my personal experience I've found the Germans and the French least likely to put up with a learner haha. They're so quick to swap to english you barely have a chance to learn, on the the whole their english is bloody better than what you hear in the UK :D.

Hindi.

I often see a couple of Indian guys in the pub talking in Hindi and I'd love to be able to join in the conversation randomly one day to see the reaction.

No other reason - I'd never use that language for any other purpose but it would be worth it.

If I were instantly fluent though that wouldn't be a problem.

I need to learn (or re-learn, as I did 2yrs of German at school) the basics and be confident in them. Hello, goodbye, thanks, directions, food&drink, all that sort of thing. Business discussions will still be in German, unless I can quickly pick up things like 'deferred capitalisation' or 'budgeted merit increase'! :D

I suppose I should be saying French because I now live and work here, and whilst I'm learning it's difficult.

However I'd love to be able to speak Japanese, my sister became fluent in 6 months which is impossible for the likes of me :(.
