Pick the next Don

I realise such a thread can't be started in every forum but the fact remains that there will be a lot of members who are active elsewhere on the forum who will not get a chance to "vote" for their favourites.

I don't see why not  Make a thread in each of the forums that require Donning (Photography, HG&P, L&OS, SC?) for nominations, then make a voting thread, then elect the winner. Sorted :)

Incidentally, it'd be nice if we could do instant-runoff voting [1], where you are able to rank candidates in order of preference. It'd be fairer, and would result in less arguments since you can hardly claim that the winner didn't receive enough votes or enough consent :)

Can't do that within the forum software I don't think. Great idea though as it would be easier to work out first / second and remove most of the popularity part from it.

And there's the biggest problem with all of this. Quite apart from basic popularity skewing the "votes" to large degree, only those members who regularly visit GD are going to even see this thread.

Fairly sure vB has the option to make a thread a forum wide announcement. That would sort that problem fairly easily and simply.

Probably a good idea. Someone in Photos still thinks I'm on the mod team :D You know what people are like out there in the sticks ;)

We can just manually count the votes, surely? There are hardly going to be hundreds of posts in each thread :)

Get everyone to post the candidates they want to vote for, in order of preference, then someone can just tally them up. It would be much easier to just write some code to do it, but obviously then we lose any way of policing the votes and ensuring that people don't vote twice which rules it out completely.

Your above GD and below GH now!

Photography is like a sandwich. All edible and tasty.

Gentle reminder. :)

Not a lot of point proposing ex-Dons because they are ex-Dons - ie they or I decided they weren't to be Dons anymore. Shame really as I thought that froggy git was rather good ;)

Ah but if you split us up are we 2 forums or one? ;) There's still plenty who just pop by for one specific forum on OcUK. Not everyone's a GD'er.

Kellee001 - although the number of girls on here has somewhat diminished recently I still think we need some 'girl power' in the mod team :D

And Jarp/Garp - listening to what others have said I think he would do a good job as he is a dude :)

Im only genuinely one section, this is just me being silly and spamming other sections to lower the quality and make cases seem better. :)

You know it is true.
