Would like to upgrade my pc
gamming (mostly mmo's)
Current spec is
E6600
ATI 5750
2 mb ram
700w Seasonic ATX12v Psu
Silverstone j case (forget the real name)

Would like to build my system round
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge)
Have a budget of around 300-400 pounds for cpu/ram/mobo and maybe a Soild state drive. I don't need the best parts going just something decent

I plan and getting a new gpu and new 24" later (prob the 6950 flashed to 6970)

Hi there,

Good choice on the CPU. If you act quick, you can get the daily deal on the OEM version for £162.

Here is the RAM, motherboard and cooler I would recommend. If your budget tops out at £400, then I wouldn't suggest going for an SSD yet.

Good suggestion above. I would get a 480Gtx, or a 560ti to go with it, that would get you some serious boost (or even the 5850's that were on sale a while ago if they still are).

5850's are up to around £119.99, which is still an awesome price.

I'm still waiting on the postman :D.

Hey guys what the notice all about
- Potential Sandybridge issue:
- In some cases, motherboards featuring the 6 Series Chipset (P67 & H67) that have Sata devices connected to ports 2-5 could potentially degrade over time.
- Motherboards with devices connected to Ports 0 & 1 remain unaffected or using the 6Gb/s ports.
- Please note if your board is affected by the above issues, your statutory rights remain to RMA the board.
- Tests have found that under 5% of boards are affected.
- PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO POTENTIAL ISSUE TO SANDYBRIDGE PROCESSORS

finally going to give myself the push and buy these today.

What is the defrence in the two mobos can save myself 40 pounds

C45 doesn't allow you to run CF/SLI. If you don't need it, it's a great motherboard.

There are a few more differences than that.

The C45 is lacking:

2 extra SATA 3 ports from a Marvell Chipset
Voltage checkpoints
Power and reset buttons on the motherbooard
OC Genie button on the motherboard
eSATA
PCI-E x16 and x8 slots with Crossfire and SLI support
Super Charger: fast charge iPad/iPhone/smartphone

The C45 has:

A thinner PCB
Solid capacitors instead of High-C caps
A single PCI-E x16 slot

If don't need or want or aren't bothered by these differences then get the C45.

Mate, I'd wait a few days for the Z68 boards to come out and check the prices on those before you buy anything.

It's a progressive POV.

If he gets a Z68 it's going to be better than any H67 or P67 because of the ability to use a discrete GPU along with the onboard graphics of an i5 2500k as well as allowing for SSD caching. So if he's going to spend £140 on a mobo now, why not wait to see if you can get something significantly better for maybe a fraction more in less than a weeks time? Or if he has spent £100 on a mobo, with the release of Z68 there might even be price fluctuations which could see him pick up a better deal on an alternative P67 which might allow him to have the extra's such as the ability to run in crossfire and/or all the bonuses that the better msi (assuming he's going msi) boards offer.

I just think overall, it wouldn't do any harm to wait a few days. Speculation is Z68 is being released between the 8th and 12th so IMHO patience really could pay off.

Went for the c45.
I don't really need all the dogs bits and never going dual cards again. Would rather keep the cost down

a) The OP is gaming so won't be using the onboard GPU.

b) SSD caching is for use alongside a HDD as the main OS drive. When the OP gets an SSD (if they do) then I assume they'll use that as their OS drive.

c) I doubt the Crossfire/SLI P67 motherboards will be £100 because Z68 is released. It's more likely there'll be a price premium on Z68 over P67.

The OP has no doubt seen these comments and will make up their own mind.

If a £100 Z68 board is released by 12 May they can DSR their board.

If £140 P67 boards plummit to £100 by 12th May they can DSR their board.

Nothing else to say.

Let the OP make up their own mind.

End of.

Peace.
