Picked up an M...

Nice car !!

Interesting that the right bank exhausts are shiny clean but the left are dirty - Do the exhaust gases not flow out of the right side?

Flows out of both sides, probably more out of the right at low revs, so when it's cold, a little more smokey.

I just noticed there was another RR being organised. I'll try and get down there, be good to see what it makes.

I paid £13k which I didn't think was too bad.

It had a new right backbox replaced at the dealers due to a bit of damage. I'll have to get the metal polish out and try and get the other side looking shiny!

Just found out it's got bluetooth too :)

Thought I'd point out some other things that you probably already know but just in case.....

If it hasn't had a map or firmware update for a while, you can get some custom firmware free off t'internet that will enable 3D mode on the sat nav and usefully change the alternative colour scheme on the sat nav into a darker theme that's better for night driving.

Rear springs can be a bit fragile and you'll find aftermarket spinrgs that give a bit more compliant ride and are a bit less fragile. The small amount of lowering also makes the 18" alloys you have look a bit fuller in the arches.

A guy on z4-forum sells a module called Gaptech that will allow you to one touch open and close the roof with the key fob.

If you're just learning what options and features it has then try prodding the panel under the side air vents - you may have cupholders there!

Even if you're going to go the BMW servicing route always buy your own oil as you'll supply it cheaper than anywhere they've found. 0W-60 Castrol for M engines is very expensive!

edit: oh and I think that spoiler is a genuine BMW style: http://www.mstyle.co.uk/acatalog/info_B04BM029.html

Cheers BigT, I've picked up on a couple of those already. Do you have a name for this custom firmware so I can check it out?

I've picked up a Gaptech, just the one that works from the button on the dash. I'll have to get round to fitting it soon.

The cup holders I've found! Another extra I presume then? Are they not standard on an M?

I'll probably pick up a litre of oil soon just in case it gets through some, thanks.

Loving the engine sound and more in gear torque :)

Yes indeed an extra. In fact it seems you've got every extra there was except for individual paint on the outside!

Without seeing an interior shot I can't say if you've got any of the following interior options:

- extended leather (leather round the hoops and along the sides of the transmission tunnel from memory)

- Carbon leather trim instead of aluminium or wood

- Extended storage (some nets in the footwell)

Re the firmware, ite been a while since I did it - its a custom version of v32.2. This shows what can be done, but they charge for the download and I think it can be had for free with some searching. I don't think the firmware is illegal to download (but maps certainly are and should be bought from a dealer):

I don't think I've got extended leather or storage, but there is carbon leather on the dash and around the gear stick.

Thanks for the link, I'll do some reading. My nav version says SW 4-1/01 so it looks like it's running a custom version already!

Have you had a good look underneath the car?

A friend of mine recently bought a Z4M and says he looked at a car identical to yours (at Silverstone) but walked away as it had "extensive underside damage including damaged exhaust". Hope it's a different car or has since been repaired.

Great colour and I loved mine. Just don't fiddle with the switch in the boot as I did and thought my roof had broken :o (manual roof override)...

Nice! This is going to be my next car in Imola red as soon as the wife finishes her nursing degree and lands a job! 21 months and counting :(!

It is the same one! It had an altercation with something which damaged the exhaust and a bit of suspension. Since it was the MD's car at the dealership, it got properly sorted, and that's why it's had the new exhaust section. It drives straight and true and they made it clear from the offset, so I don't think there is anything to hide.
