Pidgin 2.5.0 + MSN = "Unable to connect"

Hello mate, did you ever get it sorted?
Just to let you know that I've been running 2.5 ever since I first got the update warning when I started Pidgin.
My MSN account has worked flawlessly the whole time.
My settings are the same as Rainmaker, and I don't use the http method.
I've also never forwarded any port in my router, and my router is too old for uPnP. It just "works"

Not yet. Going to wait until I get Be activated on Wednesday. Then brother and I will be on different lines.

I just tried it since only brother and a mate of his are here for the LAN atm. I now get "Unable to authenticate: Authentication Failure" from Pidgin. I tried the "Use HTTP method" checked and unchecked and same response.

Well it works today. Got Pidgin 2.5.1, checked the HTTP box and rechecked password was OK. So one of those three fixed the problem. Thanks all.

So am I. Always liked Pidgin. Just the problem with no webcam support but I think Pidgin looks nicer and runs better than WLM. Even after patching WLM.
Yeah I like Pidgin too, and used it extensively on Linux for a couple of years (GAIM first, then later Pidgin after the re-branding). The lack of webcam support didn't bother me as I don't use one, but the lack of offline messaging can be a real pain. Apart from that though it's great, and I especially like the 4096 bit encryption plugin

Wouldn't you need the other person also using the encryption? A mate of mine uses WLM and will never use Pidgin so I doubt I can get the encryption going.and I especially like the 4096 bit encryption plugin
Yeah your contacts would need it too, but it does work on Windows and Linux. I always use it when chatting with my brother, but then again we use SSL SMTP and SSL IMAP as well as digital signatures and encryption. Paranoid? Moi?

I used to use SSL IMAP when I accessed my email through Thunderbird. Now I just go through the sites.
No chance of converting the vast majority of my MSN contacts to encrypted Pidgin, I'm the geekiest of 'em all.

Yeah same here 99% of my contacts just looked blank (or rather didn't say much at all) when I suggested it. One of my contacts wanted to know which TYPE of 4096 bit encryption it was, though, and whether I'd checked the source to ensure it was clean. He became a good mate, funnily enough
