Few problems with it. Blurred display, only does 1080p 60hz, etc etc Do a search for VR Kommando on youtube and see what he says on it so far supposed to be putting a review up soon. I found some kind of patched software he did to fix some issues.
So do you own it?
I read about a possible hack to allow 4k 60hz lowering the colour output, like Nvidia did on their GC

Nope wouldnt touch VR with a barge pole, virtual or not.

Been looking for one of these but nobody in the UK seems to stock them, you can order but it's via airmail or a slow boat from China.
I've read they at the very least will do 1440p 60hz and that should be noticeably sharper than the Rift/Vive, if you're not buying for the purpose of gaming it's a better option imo.
Watching video or using virtual desktop on the Rift is horrible, text is barely readable and SDE is always noticeable. .
Unless something's changed, you'll have no positional tracking making this a worthless device for virtual desktop.
Why would you need full positional tracking for virtual desktop?
If you want to look closely at an icon or something you won't be able to move closer. Also, without position tracking it's very jarring to physically mode your head and have nothing happen in VR. Makes me feel sick as a dog.
It depends whether you enjoy rotating your head because the screen is so huge (especially at ultrawide resolutions), or squinting at text because the screen is unreadable. Being able to move closer when you need to sort of alleviates both problems although to be honest, Virtual Desktop is more of a gimmick than anything else (I only use it to view 180/360 videos).I've used virtual desktop and that's just rubbish, if you're struggling too read something you make it bigger, not try and move closer.
Different strokes I guess. Gear VR makes me nearly throw up due to my brain getting different signals to my eyes with positional tracking.
At the end of the day it sounds like you have made your mind up that you want this device despite the reviews saying it's rubbish and people here advising against it.
Let us all know how it performs once you get it.
