Do you have a horse in ‘Oblivion‘? (The answer is yes if you completed the first main quest) If so, you can now download a horse armor pack and get your ride looking sharp. This will cost you 200 points, and is only available in US, Canada, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand.

Now, this is great, but 200 points? Personally I think that is pricey (even tho' 200 points isn't much), and since the game is single player only, rather pointless. However, it does raise a good question. How many people are going to buy it? Probably way more than you might think. But the fact of the matter is, if you don't like, or think it is a rip off, don't buy it!

Or anyone with an opinion? :p

Either way, moderately pointless if you ask me considering the games single player nature.. much rather buy say.. an awesome bodykit for a car to race with or similar.. so other people go "ooo" look at that..

Although, if enemies ran from you on your horse because of some killer horse armour.. then that would be a tangible difference.

I've not really tried horses all that much, but the initial impression I got from when I did try er steal one was that they were crap. Reverse gear on them is poor, they have a bumpy ride and they can't jump? No good having a head on collision with a big boulder then!

Your athletics skill doesn't even go up via horsieback so theres another reason not to bother with them. £2.50 for a pointless addon...I'd prefer if it was something actually useful. I didn't mind buying the early xmas addon packs for Kameo cos they were actually pretty good and lets face it, Kameo in a santa's outfit.... :p  :D

I just hope Bethethehsda are working on an update more then anything else. Got a bug in the fighters guild that stops me advancing now :(

Now if the armor had storage, that would be helpful too.

I thought horses could jump?

Oh well, that's why I got the PC version. The download should be free, not freaking $2.50!

Press (unsurprisingly) the jump button to make your horse jump :p

Works better if you hold it down rather than tap it though.

Its more Brethesda arrogance tbh. They won't say if they will / won't support the Xbox 360 - hell they won't even say if they'll patch it for the PC. The interview I saw was basically a 'we're amazing, we do what we want and people like it'. Seems to happen with all the big devs apart from possibly Epic Megagames :(

I'm tempted by the horse thing though, would be really cool riding around with a warhorse. Wouldn't really match my new char though, assassin on a warhorse?!

I'm with you on this one. There's a good few games out there that haven't had any follow up, and XBL has the potential to inject more life into all these games.

OK, so you gotta pay for it, but let's not forget the costs to the artists and designers that have made this possible. If you're a die-hard Oblivion fan, I don't think those points are gonna break the bank.

I take it you're already riding around on a warhorse with full plate armour then? :D

LOL - not quite, just a horse with a ruddy big horn in it's head that plays rough when I'm in danger.

:p :o

I was reading about this on major nelsons blog, where this story alone has got more comments then any other story he's posted. Almost everyone is quite angry about the whole issue because they removed some shadowing feature just before the game went final.

Anyway, while I don't mind the download as it's useless imo but price does bother me, especially when you look at it this way...

Geo Wars Full = 400 points
Useless horsie eye candy = 200 points

Thing is if this game was pc only the download would be included in a patch for free just like 99% of other single player pc games.

I now officially hate xbox 360 with a passion.

You can't blame a console for what the developers & publisher decide to do!

They're currently 'testing the waters' seeing if people will pay for things or not. If it ends up being a resounding success charging for things - then they will start charging on all other platforms, including PC.

Me and my horse fell off a cliff and he died and fell/rolled the rest of the way down.

I felt bad for laughing at him rolling upside down and stuff....

So you are saying that if there was no xbox360 and "live" they would charge pc users for a horse texture?

All this will do is make everything we download cost something instead of being free like they have for years. I mean whats next - bug fixing patches at a price?

I personally hope its a big disaster.

I'm saying we're in a capitalist market, and making money is the aim of the game. Live is just a nice unified system (like Steam) that allows for downloads to be tracked and a single persistant account work across multiple platforms and an entire catalogue of products. Its a nice testing ground for new ideas and thoughts.

It would have happened sooner or later, Live is making it happen sooner.

I don't like it though, and also hope it falls flat on its face. However, given current thoughts regarding 'pirates' and a 'screw over the paying customer', even if it falls flat on its face it'll probably carry on nonetheless.

But you can't blame a console for what the publishers do.
