Pimp your (Oblivion) ride! (Discuss)

Boogle - actually i blame microsoft. Oh well I guess theres cough"other" options. :p

MS, Activison, Eidos, EA, Vivendi, etc. All are publishers out to get your money ;)

By and large, MS are one of the best publishers because they don't put obtrusive anti-piracy stuff in any of their software. The worst they do is put in activation in (which is nowhere near as bad as its made out - and yes I've had to phone them to activate again). I have a series of games that won't work on my secondary PC without unofficial mods, due to copy protection. All the games published by MS work fine :) And no I'm not copying - the other PC is on a domain with a fairly strict software group policy, and that means certain anti-piracy tools don't work because they can't start putting files where they shouldn't or installing drivers. Thats not to say anti-piracy 'tools' haven't broken the computer a couple of times by finding a way of putting a file in a protected dir, and then Windows going 'omg get rid of it, but I can't'. Only way to remove said files is with the recovery console (thats if it works, sometimes the antipiracy pap takes down the PC completely). That is what I class as intrusive anti-piracy. Of course the game is designed to run under 'administrator rights' and therefore isn't faulty, my care about my nephews installing software found on the net is the fault.

Either way, I fear I have gone off on one of my tangents that ends in me recommending consoles for their ease of use with gaming :p

Seriously though, MS aren't a big bad corporation. They are much worse ones out there. Given MS' size they could put a world of hurt on the computer community at large, fortunately they don't. Thats not to say record labels also don't put the hurt on, they kinda do.

More content on the way...

I just hope they're working on an update or I'll go ballistic because the more I read about ES3, the more broken quests I see out there including my one :(

Im assuming that they are for the PC, in which case it does look like they are starting to charge to add content on the PC as well. To be honest i cant say i much like this approach either. In the past stuff like this would have been added in a patch. If i recall Morrowind had a few official extra downloads which were free. Its obviously been decided that this is a good way of making extra cash.

Way to totally alienate your modding community. The ES series has been so popular due to the heavy modding support provided through the construction set.

What is different about oblivion is that certain key resources have been held back. This means that in a lot of ways the modders hands are tied, meaning people will have to download new meshes from the developers.

So in the new era - you either pay up for official limited content or you don't get any at all (legally).

But there is still hope that Bethesda will release the necessary software to allow full modding of the game ala Morrowind.

I still think M$ handed Bethesda a wad of cash to delay the game and limit the modding capabilities though but thats just me. :D

MS don't do that (nor would they need to, anything on Live has to go through them anyway, and most game sales are in the first few weeks so limiting PC modding wouldn't benefit them much at all) - they either buy the entire company or just leave them to it :D

On major nelson's blog he's received more replies to this post than any other http://www.majornelson.com/2006/04/03/pimp-your-oblivion-ride/#comments and the general consensus which I agree with is we don't mind paying for content BUT £1.70 for such a small thing is way too high. It's even forced a reply ..

Hey all…yes…I am reading the comments here. Thanks for the feedback, although we don’t set the pricing, I am happy to share your comments with the right folks.

BTW: I totally expected this level of conversation when I hit publish on this post"

I think they were testing the water with this one and I think they've been stung. I wouldn't be surprised to see the price drop on this one.

So, does the armour actually protect your horse? Not having played the game yet I don't know, is your horse immune to attacks or does it just not get attacked?

When you have a horse it can be attacked and killed, so getting this armour can help it live longer by offering it some protection.

I'm in two minds over this. While I have no problems paying for decent updates and extras, I feel horse armour is a really small part of the game and not worth the money. Add some more unique weapons/armour and quests, and they'll have my money. Small things like this, and I think I'll be leaving it for a while.

your horse seems to get attacked more, but seems to deal out greater damage

Does this armor automatically go on any Horse you get? Is it 1 time only?[/

you get a note to give in at the stables near the imperial city, then u choose what armour you would like, walk outside and its fitted, i think its 500 gold or something after?

horse armour is cack, but then so are the horses. at level 30 they die against anything i ever encounter, with or without flash armour. Id pay double for a mod that stopped NPC's attacking my horse instead of me, retards.

The trend in games is not disturbing, its expected, its in the business model for any 360 publisher, they need more money for games but they need to keep prices as low as possible. By content your average game should be a lot more by now, oblivion prolly needs to be about £70 a copy id have thought. Im all for useful mods, look at the PC, fixed the map, clear water to swim in, better draw distances, proper level balancing so that you cant finish the arena by level 2 and bandits CAN pose a threat. These are things you can charge me for, but you sell me horse armour that doesnt work? Thanks a ****ing bunch.

i cant get the pack to install, i enter my registration key and the installer just hangs. Im not phoning the phone number either (im guessing its a US number) becuase it will probably cost more than the armour pack itself
