what is the time out settings, and does the PIN ever fail and lock you out ?

Do you find any downsides ?

5 mins and no, never.

I’ve had PIN numbers for as long as it’s been a thing on phones. It’s the most basic protection you can give yourself considering how valuable the contents of a phone is.

Yes. Have always had a PIN on my phone. For everyday use though it's generally fingerprint or face unlock. Face unlock was activated after I'd gotten so sick and bloody tired of trying to open the damn phone with a fingerprint at work, forgetting that I was wearing nitrile gloves.
