Ping/High MS Issues.

Hi,

I'm having a few issues in regards to my Ping. It's fine when there is only a few devices connected but when the amount starts going up, the ping begins to raise and fluctuate.

I am on the up to 17mb BT Broadband package (the unlimited one).

In terms of how many devices can be connected at one point, there is quite a few. For example, in the evening there may be 3 PCs connected via Ethernet, 2 xbox360s and an iMac via Wifi. On the 3 PCs, they are predominately used for online gamine (CS:GO, World of War Tanks, LoL etc).

So, I'm kind of presuming that it's the amount of devices on the one connection that is affecting it.

I'm open to any suggestions as to how I can stop the ping fluctuating so much.


Edit - Might be worth noting, that I recently got a BT Home Hub 3.

On a standard ADSL line even loading a web page will affect the ping so gaming whilst watching YouTube etc is possible but MS time will be greatly affected.

Considering he isn't on a standard ADSL line he's on ADSL2+ loading webpages isn't going to have much if any of an impact on just three PC's

Streaming and any P2P on the other hand, will directly affect it quite substantially.

Nout you can do unless you want to pay for another line, or upgrade to a fibre connection/switch to vm

It isn't hard for a page with a couple of high res images to saturate ADSL2+.
 
"Up to" 17Mb package means at peak times you are probably getting much less. I'd agree with the above that it will be a bandwidth problem, if you have multiple devices all trying to access together then it will have this effect.

Alternative router (or maybe current router) with some kind of QOS may help. Restrict the other users bandwidth allowances and leave yourself some spare.
