Ping problem. PLEASE HELP!

Hey, I currently live at home with my parents (Only 16), and my exams are on at the moment. My mother finds in necessary to unplug the internet every night (to which the reason escapes me). So, after school the next day, I plug the internet back in an try to enjoy a few games of whatever I feel like playing....BUT....I have a ping of 999 on around every game I play. This only stops after I have reset the router, but my mother freaks out when I do this for some strange reason. Is there anyone else who has this problem, or anyone who has a solution?

I am not sure of the router. I am with Orange Broadband. I know they are not the best, but my usual ping is 40-50ms

I only ask because normaly you can get in to your router control panel and see whats going on normaly the details are on the back of it which will be a web address or an ip address this will let you reset it without turning it off and on normaly from your computer

also you can check its settings to make sure its set up right I found this which might help

If your Mother is constantly unplugging the router every night, wouldn't this cause whoever you're with to think that there's a fault on the line? You need to inform her that the router should stay on 24/7.

I have, but she phoned her friend who builds PC's for a living that said that "It doesn't matter if it gets unplugged, it will work normally once it is plugged back in" and I know for a fact that this is not true, due to my problem.

shouldn't be a problem my dad used to do it all the time and didn't do it any harm he still does it and he still plays quake

Some routers are very temperamental when it comes to being unplugged. My Speedtouch 565v6 often requires quite a bit of resetting after it's been turned off.

Why the hell would she unplug it? to stop you being on it all night perhaps?

My mother tried this when i was younger, I moved out... true story... No rly its a true story!

My parents used to do this and my router used to be a pain if it had just turned back on!

Turning it off at night would only really cause an issue if you are on IPStream via Orange rather than LLU. That would only drop your broadband speed though to try make the line stable again rather than affect the pings.
