Pinnacle Studio 9 Capture Problem

Hello,
I ahve pinnacle studio 9.4.3 and have instaled it on a windows xp pc to do some video editing and I plugged the camcorder into the pc via mini firewire to full firewire and pressed the capture tab and get this error:

Pinnacle Studio is trying to initialze a DV or digital 8 camcorder via a 1394 port.

Any ideas how I can sort this out as I am in desperate need to get this working asap.

Do I need any drivers for the firewire port?

My motherboard if you need to know it is an asus p5w dh deluxe.

camcorder not ready? must be in the right mode, only used a sony years ago, and you had to put it into playback mode else you got this error

and I'm hoping the firewire port is initialised in the bios and the drivers loaded...

Goto , Control Panel - System - Device Manager and have alook for any yellow signs in the ieee 1394 section .This would indicate a problem .I use the vary same Pinnacle 9 for capture and it works every time with no dropped frames .

or use winxp movie maker and import the footage to avi files then use pinnacle to edit them,,

pinnacle has loads of issues allways has allways will main one is crashing half way through you preparig a movie and you loose it to have to start again..
