Should there be a different layout of the pins between PC2700 and PC5300 RAM?

I've just upgraded from the older PC2700 which was in my motherboard to some pc5300 yet the 5300 doesnt appear to fit into the board as the small slit on the ram appears to be about 5mm in a different place!

Forgot to add that the motherboard in an Abit UL8

edit - Just noticed the ram is PC2:5300. Is there where my problem is?

Yeah your PC5300 is DDR2, your board only takes DDR.
