Pipe Sizes?

Hey guys

Looking to re do my watercooling loop. I went with the biggest sized pipes last time assuming it would increase flow and cooling. however on the rebuild i wanted to check what the best way forward is? The bigger tube was harder to fit in and i couldnt get a nice clear tubing to see the coolant, its all kind of discoloured when its meant to be see thru due to the thickness or the rubber.

Thanks for any tips on this and if it makes any difference!

Tube size matter very little(in terms of reducing temps) once over 3/8.
However, larger diameter tubes with thicker walls are easier to bend with out kinking.
Most of the clear tubing are so nice to start with but they do get "cloudy" so you would not get the same effect as BNIB :)

ah so what would you suggest? id rather have them clear and replace when they get to cloudy. and kinking is easily avoided if its installed properly i assume?

Well if you must have clear tubing then it is up to you.
But yeah kinking can be avoided by many ways, like not having sharp bends, moulding tubes with heat, anti kink coils etc..

normally a larger bore tube has a thicker wall you can guage this but looking at the tube specs 13/19 etc id/od so the wall thickness would be 3mm this would be 1/2 inch id tubing near as dammit.

some makes of tubing are less prone to kinking than others also generally the more xpensive types will kink less. you can look for large diameter thin wall pipe, or you have the option of using swivel fittings and angled fittings if you have weird bends to contend with

imo the bigger the pipe/ tube the better

Personally, I've always been a fan of 8/10mm tubing.

There's a couple of c differnce between small and big tubing at most.

i used to have a small bore set up similar to that but above but i prefer big stuff now. guess the small stuff looks less intrusive in the system

i wish we could have ulltra big bore like a 1" setup with uber large fittings lots of water flying round
