Pipex Max DSL Regrades

Andyt_uk said:
where are the regrade options then? If i go to change service theres only the 1mb and 2mb packages as usual. Searching for regrade or max dsl on the site shows nothing either.

AFAIK the option to regrade will not be available until next week. Dont think I will bother upgrading as I dont want to be tied to another 12mth contract, I'll prob stick with my 1mb line until June then jump ISP to one that offers 1mth contracts with MAXdsl and who doesn't traffic shape 24/7

I've jumped from Pipex. Rang up about 3pm on Thursday, 10am on Friday I had an email with my MAC in it. The man on the phone at Pipex mentioned 'special offers' if i stayed, but I declined. Might be worth a phonecall and a barter if your thinking of moving.

They'll only tie you down to a 12 month contract regardless of the deal and then charge you £60 if you leave before the contract expires.

wrong. they charge you the remainder of the contract term to leave.

I am waiting until the end of the 12month contract and then leaving pipex. I don’t think its fair to be capping bit torrent when it can be used for many legit reasons.

That's much much worse.

well that's only what i've gathered from reading the forums at adslguide. the 58pound or so disconnection fee used to apply in the first year to recoup the connection fee they have to pay bt which is fair enough. but doing what they are now to existing customers is a disgrace. do they care? of course not....

Guys, have a look at Griffin if your thinking or migrating to a new ISP.

http://www.griffin.com/

Well happy here, no caps etc and 5:1 contention ratio.

Are you having a laugh?
CopperStream Office 500 - £25.99* per month
CopperStream Office 1000 - £39.99* per month
CopperStream Office 2000 - £49.99* per month
CopperStream Office MAX - £69.99* per month

512k for £25.99? or am I reading this wrong?
I'd rather pay f2s £23 for 8mb with throttling and 50Gb cap, I schedul d/l's anyway and it it cheaper than my current 2mb package with them. I was jut waiting for my exchange to be enabled. Should be upgraded on Thursday :)

Have also just got my MAC code and am leaving Pipex; they told me over the phone that the port throttling will effect all speed grades including the MAX. For leaving, Pipex have charged me £58 and a further month payment.

Supposed to be switched over to Nildram on Thursday and have told me on the phone that they have no intention of any port throttling in future - but am sure pipex would have said that a few months ago.

indeed those prices don't even include vat and lets face it, people who can get max, want it..... :D

All depends on your needs m8 :)

I get 2mb unlimited and uncapped 24/7, plus a premium usenet service threw in.

Also business grade service, and real techies on the end of the phone (should you ever need them). All in all I couldn't recommend anyone higher.

I regulary hit 500 lol

Er and?

£45 - £8.50 port == £36.50. By the time the ISP pays staff, transit costs, £30 isn't far off.
By most estimates, you're looking at £1/GB over a (roughly maxed out) Central (inc VAT), so anything over 30GB a month and they're making a loss...
The fact the ISP isn't chasing anyone up yet is more a matter of time than anything else.

Strange how any ISP's offer uncapped then?
AOL (who I am currently with) offer uncapped packages and I think they rely on most of their customers not downloading more than 30 GB a month!

I have been monitoring my usage over the last month or so and I don't go over 5 GB a month despite being online for many hours a day.

I know that just one month isn't long enough to really monitor my usage but I think that even if I downloaded more I still wouldn't go over a 30 GB usage limit.

Not using Centrals (look at LLU or cable, though even they're tightening up) and relying on a massive number of light users - you need 18.8 (:D) users doing 5GB a month to balance out the 1 doing 500GB a month - usually does it.
Other than that you've got either a) crazy ISPs who're going to either go bust or have horrific performance or b) ISPs with traffic shaping in place to keep your usage down anyway.
