Hi
Does anyone have slow web surfing after 6pm till 12pm on pipex i dl at normal rate just all the web pages or most are very slow to load and some just time out or is it just me

very slow today browing the net. just tried to download some big files and speed is less than 50kb/s - usually 230.

Sheffiled btw

Seems ok for me but pipex have been under average for a long time now and i've had a few connection problems recently too.

Soon you can get a free regrade to 2mbps if your currently on 1mbps so i will stick around for a bit longer, they really need to sort out their poor offers, everywhere else is looking better these days. :(

joined up 2 years ago to the 1mb and they upgraded to 2mb. today is the first day i've ever had a problem / reduced speed.

do u know if the 2meggers are getting an upgrade and what to?

Hi

I just migrated away from Pipex partly due to the service seems to be struggerling to cope which im guessing the reason they now have traffic management ... i suspect everyone will suffer not just the heaviest users but hope they sort it out for everyone or the 8M/b service will be useless at the times most expected .. i also assume the 2m/b users will get upgraded to ADSLMAX as other ISP's are doing .. one other issue a rumour that BT want to buy Pipex although as yet unconfirmed which i really hope dont happen even though i already went elsewhere

First step would be run the BT Speedtester (instructions in FAQ), to make sure it's not some non-Pipex issue.

Mine is VERY slow browsing but fine for games / dling :] requested mac code 2 days ago still waitng :(

Downstream 1798 Kbps (224.8 KB/sec) 1941 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 247 Kbps (30.9 KB/sec) 266 Kbps (inc. overheads)

i check after dinner and downstream was at 1300ish :/ its back up now to full now tho, time to jump ship :D

Still pretty slow for me, i'll be running the speedchecker in the morning.

Tried the download site in the FAQ and was getting half full speed, i'm on 2Mb. Also getting just below 100KBps when using newsgroups.

I only download at off-peak hours and i'm not a heavy users compared to others i've seen on these forums. Plus 1.30AM is hardly peak hours anyway.

Between 6pm-12 is traffic shaping they do. Even with the traffic shaping between those hours, its still fine for browsing or playing something like CS:S.

Saying that I'm migrating in about a month from Pipex to Zen.

Thanks for letting us know Pipex.

funnily enough, my service has improved over the last week or so. i've not been too happy with speeds over the last month or so during peak times but it seems to be much better now. maybe i had local issues which have been resolved? :)

:*( this is driving me nuts

after doing a few speed tests my upload is still the same 1/4 meg. but my download speed is 1/2 as slow as that!! and this is with a conn that usually has a good 2mb connection (230kb/s)

Nope and be warned the other "similar" package costs the same over priced amount and it doesn't have news groups or web space and you'll be locked into another 12 month contract which is imho a load of bs!

I won't even bother now, its quite disgraceful how they can treat existing customers like this, all i would like is to simply have the throttling taken away for 2mbps without having to change the package, swear words are needed to express how i feel, pipex are seriously pathetic the way they are now with these dirty tactics.

phoned Pipex last night to try and sort this out.
i have to keep using thie speed teast throughtout last night and today to they can log the speeds. but whatever the guy did last night seems to have fixed it.

connection was approx 40kb/s last night, then this morning it was 850kb/s!!
thier test only loads a ~800kb image file so not a brilliant test imho. earlier the speed was ~600.

actually in fact their test doesnt seem to be anywhere near big enough. just tried again now:

The 737000 graphic file took 3.532 seconds to download, giving an approximate connection throughput of 1630 kbps.

d/l a bigger file seems to rest on about 235kb/s so seems ok atm :)

they said i wasnt on traffic shaping, but it would seem like we were. :/

I'm with pipex and over the last week i've been getting lagg spikes every 5 seconds :( i get the same problem on all three computer connected to the router.
I've tried a different router/modem too so it must be my connection do you reckon they stuck me on traffic shaping thats why it's gone to pot? websurfing seems fines just gaming, anyone else with pipex getting this?
