piracy on pc

Seriously????

You think if you could wave a wand and copy a Ferrari for nothing this would have no effect on Ferraris ability to make money? No one would buy one if there was no exclusivity. Why drop £150k on something that can be got for free? Ferrari would be suing your magic wand maker faster than you can say abracadabra.

Your argument makes no sense.

It makes no sense because you're the one trying to compare things so wrongly. It's not about the mass production of magic ferrari copying wands that is the issue, it's the fact that that's the only way you can realistically compare the two, but there isn't a like for like example you can use with physical goods.

I'll own up to pirating ME1, ending up loving it so much I purchased it and ME2 without hesitation. Same with Batman AA.

On the flip, I pirated Spore, and am SO glad I didn't end up wasting £30 on that POS.

I've pirated loads of games, but all the ones I've liked I've went and bought. I'm not in the business of buying a game that I have no experience of and not being able to do anything about it if I don't like it. Over the last 5 years I've spent thousands of pounds on software, movies and games. I'm not saying that gives me a license to pirate, but I simply don't care. I'll acknowledge that the law says it's wrong, but again it doesn't bother me as If I like it, I'll buy it.

You can't really argue it's being "cheap" either as my 300+ collection of just PC games would say otherwise. I have far more games than anyone I know and probably pirate stuff more than anyone I know as well. :p

True guys but it defo highlights the massive issue. also metalface mark, is £35 really that much? I was paying 50+ for snes games in the 90's, that was expensive!

I remember paying 60 quid for MK2 on the snes :o but then cartridge games were always more expensive to buy than floppy/cd games for obvious reasons.

I bought the game on release (well like 2 days after), wish I'd pirated it though.

To pay £30 (online retailer) and still be subjected to lots of extremely invasive anti-piracy features and concious decisions to limit the game just makes me wish I could bring myself to download pirated games. I just played through single player anyway, haven't bothered to play since. No point.

When you can't play a game in LAN with your friends it's just pointless, rather try and pirate it and try and see if there's a workaround then pay money for a crippled experience. The new integrated into the game battle net also infuriates me, as well as the region lock. Gamers aren't known to have friends and gaming rivals all over the world, are they?

Just so annoying. Enjoyed the game, normally would be more than happy to pay up the cash. But I just don't see the point when paying consumers are the ones getting the crippled experience.

I don't pirate games, I buy them pre-owned.

They don't actually gain anything from me. Whats the difference between that and pirating?

Well buying pre-owned doesn't give you a chance to try before you buy, you can't buy a pre-owned game that is tied to a steam account or requires an unused CD key to play unlike a pirated game which will usualy at least allow playing the singleplayer of a CD key protected game, sometimes even multiplayer too. And if you want to own the game after deciding its great, a pirate can buy the game and give money to the people who earned it, unlike you buying a pre-owned game, unless you want to spend even more money.

doesn't help if they spend it on cheaper pre-owned games though

not sure why torrent tracker stats can be quoted as an actual amount downloaded since a bad client could easily pad the numbers a fair bit. Wonder what the prison sentence would be for managing to download 2million copies of the same game :o

it is crap, its like pirating day of defeat source, what you gonna do play on ur own. and no i dont want dlc, down load content< mostly single player games.

just saying. < :)

also i know single player games gets it hard, but what u gonna do activision.

If a games worth paying money for I will pay for it. If I wanna try it out see what it's like I don't see the harm in pirating it and either later deleting it because I'm not gonna play it or in fact going out and purchasing it.

Ive done this on a few games where i'm undecided wether to buy it or not, I mostly buy games that I play online, very rarely play the single player.

Prime example, got Napoleon TW tried it for a week decided i liked it enough to buy, so myself and another m8 bought it to play against each other online. Don't see a problem with it myself, but we are all different :)

Well i pirated the first stalker game and now own them all (and the CE edition for pripyat) also i think my spam posts of "stalker is awesome" + screen shots/mod info has made a few other people buy them :p

Was it MS or something that found out that people that pirated win7 etc actually got them sales by recommending it to their non tech savy friends.

Like me with Black Ops.

I originally had no intention of buying it after how shocking MW2 was. I played a pirated pre-release copy on the 360 and loved it, as such the same day I spent £35 on it. Piracy actually earned the dev's a sale from that.

People don't get prison time for downloading games so it wouldn't make any difference how many times it was.

You can/could play a pirated Borderlands online, I played through more than half the game with a pirated copy, liked it so much that I then bought it and all its DLC.
