.PK (compressed) file extension question

I was just wondering if anyone knows what program would be used to extract and repack one of these files?

I have tried 7-zip and win rar, but as I thought, they don't work.

The file certainly appears to be compressed (it has lots of sounds in it), but after a lot of searches, I cannot find any info on this compressed format, and the searches always throw up .pk files as being Adobe Audition peak files (Windows decided it was one of these because I have it installed), or packed bitmap font files.

It may be that it is a format that the developers of the software have created (it's an FSX addon), but then maybe it's not!

Any thoughts or info would be appreciated.

Thanks for the tip of trying an old version of PK zip from the Windows 98 era.

I downloaded pk262wsp.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work!

It didn't recognise the file when I selected 'open file', and I had to select 'All Files' for it to show up.

When I opened it, I got a message saying there were errors in the file and would I like them fixed. If I select no, I then get the message 'No CE signature found'.

Repairing, makes a zip file that is readable by PK zip, but when opened it says it's in need of repair, and doing so makes no difference.

So a bit stumped!

Thanks for the links.

Tried Stellar Zip recovery, but it did not recognise the file. (You can only select .zip files).

Also tried Dragon unpacker.

No luck at first, but used the Hyperripper option, and selected it to search for audio files within the file.

Had some success, as it gave me a directory tree of the file, which had two files in a folder called 'Audio'. They were Sounds_pk-0000000002.669 & Sounds_pk-0000000001.669. The latter is 8195 bytes, and the former is 149489.

I chose the 'extract file' option, but it only gives me the choice of 'without conversion', so I tried that but the file sizes are a lot smaller than above.

(It would seem the .669 extension is because I chose that as on of the audio file formats to search for in Hyperripper. If I deslect that extension, I and run Hyperripper again, I get nothing).

So not sure what I'm doing wrong, or if indeed, there is anything else I can do to extract the contents of this pk file.
