PK5 Temperatures

Hi - just built a new machine around the new P5K board. Installed the latest bios (0406).

Asus probe is warning me that my MB temps are a bit high but I couldn't find anything that tells me what the 'normal' or safe range is. In the manual screenshots they are showing mid-30s but I'm getting mid to late 40s with the warning kicking in post 45.

My other readings in Asus probe are:

vCove 1.27
+3.3 3.31
+5 4.97
+12 12.04
CPU 40
MP 46
CPU 2500 ish RPM

Should I be concerned about any of this, or is the warning settings overly-cautious?

Thanks
Paul

Specs (no overclocking on anything):
Mobo P5K
CPU 6700
Ram 2GB Crucial
Case/fans - all 'standard' CoolerMaster Cavalier 3
PSU Corsair 520W
2 SATA HD
1 SATA DVD
1 IDE DVD
1 Xi-fi

p5k and p35 generally run hot despite its flash arrangement of heatsinks.

Mine too is at 45C.

It was especially bad when I was first testing the board but as soon as the AS5 settled the temps went down to 40.

Considering the warm weather lately I am now at 45 with an [email protected].

You'll just have to turn up the fan speed I suppose.

From testing I think the limit is around 50 where my overclock starts to get unstable.

Righto. I thought these P35 boards ran really cool; is this not the case?

Seems to be an issue with the non-deluxe version, the deluxe version can easily run passively full load.

Thanks very much for the reply.

After 5-6 hours of running - I'm now hitting the 50 mark.

I'll have a play with the fan options I guess - but stability hasn't been an issue for me yet.

Thanks again.

Seriously I was seeing the same figures of around 50 a few weeks back when the board was freshly installed.

But it seems as if the AS5 has now settled and things are running cooler. Machine is on 24/7 [email protected] and the northbridge now never hits 50 but its still hot at around 45.

FYI both my CPU and northbridge temps are approximately the same 45 each with the northbridge being maybe 1-2C higher than the CPU.

Anyway good luck and stick with it or reseat the CPU HSF.

Is that AS5 on the CPU or NB?

On the CPU : it does take a few days to settle properly.

But you have a fair point there - Maybe I should try to rip off that stock northbridge cooler and reseat with some AS5. Maybe if I get bored or have the time.

Please post your results if you do. Some photographs of the stock thermal paste/pads would be nice, too, if you're going to be taking the heatsinks off.

It's a pitty the tall heatsink on the MSI board would obstruct a lot of CPU coolers, if not i'd look into getting one considering how much cooler it appears than the ASUS P5K Deluxe on that review.

My P5K deluxe runs at 38C NB...... And that's @ load with the CPU clocked to 3.2Ghz.

400Mkz without a NB bump..... wonder how high i can get it!
