I'm going to York for a week on the 7th of May. I've been before, so I know a few good places for eating. Went to Mojitos, Gourmet Burget Kitchen, the Mason Arms and a couple of lovely little cafes whos names I cant remember.

I like a variety of cuisines and dont mind paying for a good meal, so hopefully somebody can suggest some nice places for me to go this time round. I particularly enjoy mexican, indian, japanese and american styles if that helps :D

Also is Bettys tea room worth the money? I was put off by how mobbed and pricy it was the last time, but am tempted to give it a go this time.

Can't comment on Bettys unfortunately, like you it was far too busy for our liking!

If you like unusual beers though, the Evil Eye bar is absolutely fantastic which is just up a side street from that main square.

Thanks, but I'm really not a beer drinker at all. I like a nice cocktail though! :D

And I'm more interested in places for eating anyway.

They do good cocktails to (or at least the wife thought so), i don't really recall us eating at anywhere of note. Think it was just fairly generic places as we hadn't booked.

There was an absolutely lovely looking restaurant up a narrow sidestreet lined with Ivy but i've no idea what i was called unfortunately

Evil Eye is actually predominantly a Cocktail bar. Their list is obscene and they can remember it all off the top of their heads. They do a selection of bottles beers and ales. Also do food - very nice food - which is of an Asian variety.

Had a look at that Evil Eye places website. Thats certainly a big list of cocktails. I'm definetelty gonna go there for a drink sometime. Not sure I fancy there food menu though. Not hugely into chinese/cantonese/thai style stuff.

Less bars, more resteraunts please :)

If you like japanese food Asia gourmet is the place to go. The deco is not pretty , the service is average but the food is superb and the price is cheap. Would recommend this as does my Taiwanese wife.

Failing that if you fancy Chinese red chill is the place to go.

Biltmore is another superb food place. Champagne bar doing good honest English food!

Again if Thai takes yours your fancy old Siam is awesome as well. Mmmm I'm hungry all of a sudden!

Betty's is over priced and very average. For lunch Victor J's is nice. It's a few years since I've been out in the eveing in York so can't be certain with recomendations but York spice used to be my favourite curry house.

another authentic italian (not so much pizza's but proper homecooked food) is El Paradiso del Chibo. brilliant little restaurant run by some great sicilian blokes on walmgate.

Oscars do good burgers (swinegate) and if you head down fossgate there is the mumbai lounge (bangladeshi) and good fish resturant called the Blue Bicycle.

the mirchiz does good curry out in fishergate, old siam is def a good shout as well.

yorks a "foodie" place really. its hard to go wrong

some really good suggestions. There are so many places to choose from and most of them seem high quality, so it'd probably be hard to end up disappointed :)

Wow forgot about that place OP defin worth making the 10 min walk out side site centre for that Italian very small place but the food is so so good.

As said above York is a foodie city I love it ! But for a curry varicory on monk gate is the best indian bar none. Every night it's packed superb food.

Sure you'll enjoy wherever you go. Could you do me a favour ? Post back to let's know where you went?
