At Its peak Planetside was so much more epic than either of those 2 games. Imagine BF2 with thousands of players and a map 100 times the size, proper front lines, sieges, small special forces style assaults , huge invasion forces and real tactics. Some of my fondest gaming memories are me and a 10 or so man outfit squad knocking down a generator and then holding it for half an hour against a constant onslaught of attackers whilst watching the tide of this epic battle on the map turn all because of us. I played for about 4 months as part of the zerg (just join a squad and go out killing) and it bored me. I had a 3 month break and tried it again but joined a 50 man outfit with teamspeak, Its just another game completely like that, so much better. I haven't played in about a year but I might go back and give it a go, I miss it a lot. I can see why a lot of people don't like it but if you really "get it" then there isn't any other game that offers anything like it.

the only time it eased off is when they nerfed the decimator (or whatever it was called) It was silly making maxes so susceptible to anti vehicle weapons when they have so much less armor than a vehicle.
Jeez, all this time I've just been putting up with the monthy charge
