I was just wondering whether anyone is still playing this game anymore?

I was a member of the OCUK outfit on Werner, my character was Saterik and I used to play a lot. It's nearly two years ago exactly that I unsubscribed because I left the country for a while.

I'm really considering reactivating my account again as I really enjoyed the game. Just before I left they had just introduced the weird new planet map system and the new maps. I think the BFRs came in not long after I'd left the country as well.

Has the game changed much? I had a quick read around and some people are claiming the game has changed a bit, being much more vehicle based than it used to be with the big open troop battles of the past?

Yup, I play is still (and probably will until the final server goes *splat*).

Sounds like you left just as the universe became bent. A fair amount has changed since then but the only way to decide is to come back and give it a go. You might want to use a trial account first before you make the decision whether or not to resubscribe for a month.

It might be worth finding MacroPolo's thread on this a while ago about the Reserve accounts (the free ones until February next year). I'll have a peek.

Edit: This thread
That said, I believe it is better to download the game through the launchpad rather than in a zip file. That way you don't need nearly 10GB of space unpacking etc. You can get a community made installer that works perfectly from here.

I'm pretty sure the OcUK outfit has ceased to exist, whatever you do, don't join outcasters, better red than dead or red octover (assuming you will play TR again that is)

Just a word of warning :)

Good stuff. Just be warned that it is a difficult game to get into and you do, unfortunately, have to live with many bugs.

Hey Saterik :D Yeah the OcUK outfit (OcPS) is dead on there, the outfit and characters are still all there but none of us login to play, except me and i think ross is still going.

I reactivated about 2 weeks ago, havn't been playing on my TR though, using my NC alt.

i downloaded the planetside reservers thing but when i click play it says Your machine is set to allow processoer speed changing in its power scheme.
Please go into your Control Panel Power Management and set it to stay `Alwats On`while running Planetside.

WTF i cant find it anywhere in my control panel.

Right click on desktop >> Properties >> Screensaver tab >> Click power >> Change power scheme to always on and click apply.

I still play planetside(werner VS, AmigaONE, LongForgottenSoldiers) but there is so much wrong with the game that the game becomes more frustrating then fun. Game development is on the virge of non existant and only a matter of time before the 3 servers merge into 1 just to make up the numbers. I think BF2142 might be the nail in the cofin for planetside if it ends up as good as it currently looks.

It beggars belief how SOE could actually destroy and push away players from the ONLY MMOFPS

If SOE ever make another MMO I will make sure I steer clear :(

For me, the game died when they removed the fun, bouncy physics which took skill to drive evasively, a few people on here will remember my expertise in driving the deliverer ... well, apart from the times when I used to flip the deliverer killing everyone hehe.

But once the better  physics was introduced, all the vehicles became soooooooo boring to drive and felt like they weighed 100 tonnes.

It is good fun but I have played it for 3 years and we still only have 4 types of bases ( Not including Core Combat but don't get me started on that), this is never going to change and is why I am probably not going to play again. Consdering the price they do not add enough new content.

This year they have added the Wasp ( Exact same skin and model as the mossie bit with rockets) and a new Planetside logo.

I mean come on it is £10 a month FFS.

But it is the only real MMOFPS, roll on Huxley.

Well I had a bit of a play last night... I was suprised to see that my account was still active. I need to look into this further but I hope I haven't been paying an unused subscription fee for the last two years, as I'm positive I cancelled it.

What's involved in getting a BFR cert? Something to do with capturing bases in the caverns?

I like the new award merits, adds a little more to doing certain things.

I still don't like the new intersetella system and wish it was still the original Araxis map.

Does seem a little bit quieter than I remember it, but still lots of big battles going on.

I'm not sure who I will join now that OCUK is over. Maybe the outfit that Ostekake leads as they always seemed like good players.

To get an evil BFR, you need to make a certain number of cavern captures and about 75 kills. It says how far you are to completing this when you press "p" and it will say it somewhere on that window.

In terms of your account remaining active, I believe SOE made a previous attempt to get players to return by giving everyone a free month on their account if it was cancelled at the time. So presumably it is that free month that you are using right now!

I've only just started playing TR so it is difficult to judge which outfit is the best to join at this time. Whereas the VS and NC have a number of well defined successful outfits, the TR is a little more hazy. Just stick around for a bit and see which guys seem to follow your playstyle and then maybe join one of their outfits. I'd just get back into the swing of things a little and then join an outfit.

I agree, it's taking a little why to get back into the swing of things and recert the skills I used to make the best use of.
