Why is everyone so obsessed with this loads of people on facebook are posting pictures of them "planking" and it just seems stupid and dangerous.

Yeah, because he was an idiot, not because planking is dangerous.

Free running isn't dangerous. Doing it badly at the top of high-rise buildings is dangerous.
