After much reading of forums, I've settled on the following kit for my planned 'conroe' build. Have I missed any obvious problems? Any comments welcome :)

Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - OEM (CP-137-IN)
Clocks well, significantly cheaper than the 6600 but a higher multi than the 6300
Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-152-AS)
Considered the DS4 but it looks to me to have to many potential issues. e.g. Memory, IRQ issues possibly leading to other probs? P5WDH likely to support more future CPUs
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL)
Cheap, good. Nuff said?
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (HS-017-AR)
Not as efficient as some of the massive towers, but good. This or the Zalman CNPS9500-AT
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)
Best bang for buck?

Then some AS5, Seagate HD and Pioneer DVDRW.

I'm hoping to get the E6400 to at least 3GHz, ideally 3.2GHz (400MHz*8). Then run the likes of Oblivion and never drop below 30fps @ 1280x1024 full settings.

Total price - scary ;)

I'd consider the x1900xt this week offer, better bang.

P.S. There's more traffic in the General forum.

gskil 6400hz 2gb,

have got my 6400 running at 3.35 420mhz fsb 820mhz mem 1:1

on the pw5 dh.
That's the sort of thing I wanted to hear :) The gskill is £50 more though, and early reports of the GeIL seem good.

The X1900XT is £50 more, even on special - is it really worth the extra? From what I've read the X1800XT will do 1280x1024 quite happily.

PSU - I probably should have mentioned it's going in an existing case with a Tagan 580W ;)

Id buy the Geil/Team and spend extra on the X1900XT
Done :D

Thanks for the comments all. I went for the 'this week only' X1900XT and I swapped in a Zalman 9500 for the out of stock freezer. Just hope it all works and I can get it all together!

My Credit card now hates me :p

Is the board completely unmodded? (i.e. covers still on the NB and SB coolers, have you changed the thermal paste?) Any fans blowing on stuff? What's your voltages - vCore, vMCH, vDimm, etc :)

All i have done to the mobo was remove as5 everything, no extra fans on the sinks,

i removed the silly cover logos on the heatsinks.

Cpu Volts 1.45 droop is effective at running it at 1.38v or there abouts under load.
Mch 1.65
mem 2.25v 4 sticks so abit more volts never hurts.

hyper path 3 disable, this is the key to over clocking on this board.

pci set to 33.33mhz
pcie set to 110mhz

all running sweet as a nut.

I have got a post on here else where about this board lol :D

Looking to get a 6600 at the end of the month when stock is a bit more stable .

My email is my trust account if you want any more info,

Cheers

Well if you can solder a couple of wires and a resstor to one of the SMD resistors on an asus P5B then you could enable the fsb up to 550fsb :D

That board seems like a cracker now, rather than fannying around waiting for the R600 boards.

You would have been better spending it on something else lol. Or atleast waited until vista was out cos then prices may have come down (I think Vista release is now planned January but it will be delayed).

Whats better, HZ ram which will give you like 0.1Ghz more once overclocked or keeping £50 to spend on other things such as... women :p.
