The time has finally come for me to build a new rig, as this old xp2400+ is starting to struggle even with just a bit of surfing!

I've been hunting around for a month or so getting back upto speed with whats available, and have come up with this,

ocukshoppinglist.jpg

Before anyone says "get an 8800", I don't play games, other than a bit of online bingo and such, so as long as the graphics can do 1440x900 for when I finally get a 19" tft (still on 15"crt), I can't see the point in pushing the budget.

The lack of DVDRW is purely because I don't currently have the need for one, the CDRW I've got will do for a while yet.

So anyhting any of you would change? I'm just aiming for a simple, cheap system that will cope with the basics for a few years.

Edit: Forgot to mention I'll be sticking with all my current software (XP SP2), and my 80Gb pata drive (pics and movies storage).

Yeah it will be getting OC'd, Aiming for 2.6/2.8 with stock hsf and vcore.

Main reason for getting pc6400 now is that I'm still thinking of a possible upgrade to a Q6600 towards the back-end of next year (I'm hoping the price of them will come down a good wedge once the penryns have settled into the market).

Purely to maximise performance for day to day tasks. Might not even go as high as 2.6, but at least the memory will be right if I do go for the qaud at a later date.

I overclocked my E6600 from 2.4 to 3.4 and I cant really say I noticed much of a performance increase in day to day tasks, only games.

swap the case/psu for :

Antec NSK 4480B Mini Tower Case (Black) - 380W Earth Watts PSU

My current case is that size, Does the psu sit on top of the cpu in that case too?

Also, is that psu really going to cut it? Thought you needed a good 400w nowadays?
