Ok,

My parents have gone away for a week and left me in charge of the house. The greenhouse door was left open last night and it was quite cold. Today all the plants look completely dead (brown crispy leaves). Could this have been a result of leaving the door open, or would they have had to have been like this already (I dont know what they looked like before).

lol. I think they must have been like it already, cos I cant see how one night could make all the leaves look so dead. Maybe its just too early in spring for them to get their new leaves?

Anyone know any better?

one hour of frost/below freezing will kill a plant all the water expands and burts the cells leaving them all brown droopy and free of moisture there probably dead but just close the door and say they were like that before they left :D

Actually had a second thought about this.

If there was a frost last night it would have killed them regardless of the door being open / closed. Greenhouse heaters prevent that. Since your parents didnt give you any instructions about a heater I'd say the plants were already dead and your in the clear. :)

There is no heater. I'm just thinking maybe greenhouses are good enough to prevent frost inside (like a garage is).

How much warmer would a greenhouse be if the door was closed anyway?
A lot warmer than frost :p You ever tried standing in one with the door shut? Gets very humid.

Surely it cant stay humid in a freezing cold night though? With no sun?
No but it's going to be a bit warmer than it was when you left the door open ;) That's why they have doors and people use them :p
