Just a heads up that this has been released today. I have played about an hour but I have just installed it once I realised that the whole game is based on the freemium model and you can't really progress without spending a fair amount of money.

I don't have a problem with freemium as long as it is used as an aid to progress through the game a little faster but it seems that in this case you have to spend to get pretty much everything.

Shame really. I loved the original one and this just feels like the same game without the charm and creativity the first one had.

Either way, worth picking up to have a play with.

Everything I read/heard on podcast previously said it's very easy to progress without spending. I will take a look, I hate free games that take huge amounts of grinding without buying :(

This is a far better game, far more strategy required. I'm actually failing levels where I can go forever on PVZ1 with 2 rows of sun flowers and melon spamming.

Downloaded this morning, seems good so far. The reviews I've read so far indicate you can progress/complete without spending a penny.

Yeah I have finished the campaign now and unlocked all the plants. It is more challenging than PVZ 1 which in thousands of games I barely lost a round. I am having to replay lots of levels on this now I'm doing the challenges for 3 stars.

The trouble is so much is stripped out from PVZ1. So many plants gone, no water levels, night levels etc. So many great plants gone and some you have to buy, not to progress but if you want them. They are never available for free, like the imitator.

I know they can add more stuff this time and will to extend the game life but PVZ1 is a far superior game. It had far more variety but was just a bit easy.

You have changed your tune lol

But yeah I agree, Too much missing and once you finish the current campaign you are left with not a lot to do and a fairly small selection of plants. Getting those 3 stars on all levels is a challenge though!

I'm glad this has some longevity in it, without needing to spend a fortune. Simpsons Tapped Out got wiped rather quickly.

I rarely browse the app store these days, because every time I see "Offers in app purchases" I get annoyed. Would much rather just pay for it up front based off a positive review than being bled piece meal.

Is there a new Vasebreaker?

Not really, I went looking for the mini game section.. But alas I couldn't find one! There are a couple mini games in the campaign. That was the most disappointing thing to me, They are working on a "Future" themed section.

Haha no not really it is a far better game in terms of challenge but I feel like too much is missing. The 3 stars replaces the vasebreaker and other challenges from PVZ1 but they are far too repetitive on this.

Stop the zombies trampling flowers
Don't spend more than X
Don't let 2 plants die

Rinse and repeat on all the 3 stars.

Compared to all the PVZ1 challenges this is lacking but it is more challenging so I'm torn tbh.

No survival mode either, I used to love that for practicing strategies. On this by the time you have 3 rows down the level has ended. So yeah in summary ;) it's harder but it's stripped down. Then again it was free.

I've totally lost interest in it, I did the second campaign but when it asked me to go back to do the levels again for stars I couldn't be bothered. The star levels are just too samey.

The first game is definitely better. But I am enjoying pvz2 also. Can't complain for a free game. In my opinion it is better than most paid ones. Lol

Don't get put of by thinking you need to spend money. I am halfway through it and not felt the need at all.

No idea. I never use my iPad 3 front cam. I even have some black tape on it. Don't want anyone watching me fapping away when the misses ain't about, you know what I mean? :p

Lol.

Can't play it on my Gen 1 ipad. Say it needs a front facing camera!

Why?!?

Could just be a way of making sure it doesn't run on the iPad 1, but still can on other non-Retina iPads. There's probably technical reasons why it's not compatible.

The iPad 1 is also not listed in the app's list of compatible devices I've noticed.
