I need to pick up a new TV tomorrow and have it narrowed down to two but just cannot decide between them.

LG 50PK590
Panasonic TXP50G20B

Price-wise, the Panasonic is only £50 more than the LG.

It will be used 60% films, 30% TV, 10% gaming.

The majority of my film collection is backed up on my NAS so streaming is very important to me. From what I've read, the G20 cannot play MKV files, whereas the LG can.

That alone almost sells me on the LG, except that I've also read that glare/reflections are really bad on it.

Is there anyone who has seen both who could make a suggestion?

Not the quick answer you want, but you should look at both side by side and then decide before buying.

We, nor spec sheets cannot tell you which TV is best for you!

Yeah, that's my problem, I can't find anywhere near me that actually has both.

I had actually decided on the LG, but with the recent price drop on the G20 at a few places, it's made it very tempting. Especially considering that it can be had for the same price RS is currently selling the 46" G20 for. If it played MKV files, I think it would be a done deal.

Edit: Aha! Ignore me. I've found somewhere with both so I can go take a look.

How important are the MKV files to you? Personally I would go for the Panny every time, but I am biased as I own one :p ;)

Quite important. My wife only agreed to a new tv because I said it would mean we'd end up watching more films together. :D

I'm going to go and take a look at both and see if the difference between the two is enough to make it worthwhile buying the Panny and picking up a WD TV Live.

is the 60% movies bluray or dvd/sky?

Bluray.

I went to a couple places tonight but neither had the G20, only the LG, which to be honest, I was quite disappointed by it.

However, I am going to assume both places were doing something really stupid with their display models because they had a PK590 and a PK350 side by side, and the picture quality of the 350 was so much better than the 590, even though they have the same panels.

I'm sure I'll love the G20, but I'm wary of ordering it online without having seen it in person.

panasonic have a 50hz bug on all of there neo-pdp's which means the tv cant display a 50hz signal properly
So lots of people keep saying. I decided to take the plunge after seeing them for £649. Spent couple hours in the store comparing the different sets on HD TV and Blu-Ray... there really was no contest, the Panasonic isn't just a bit better it's a lot better.

Can't say I've notice any 50hz bug in the week I've owned it. Few teething troubles at first as I didn't have it set up right, but once I'd turned off all the processing rubbish all was well again :)
