tried 5K non-stop for the first time yesterday. i usually do 2.5K non stop at my limit which is usually around 12.8 km/h, so i dropped the pace to 10.5 km/h and found it easily manageable so roughly 28:40 was my time with me increasing the speed for the last minute.
will try 11 km/h today and see how i get on, then rest on sunday.
on the FT4 you can set a specific band, say 150-170 and then it will warn you if you go over 170 or below 150, i believe this is not possible on other models.
this seems to also hold true for the ft7, which is what i was trying to confirm, i read a review on amazon where the person had both an ft4 and an ft40 as well as some other models i believe and he said the ft4 was cheaper and better for this type of specific training.
an upper heart limit rate does nothing apart from tell you, you are going too fast, but i want something to tell me if i am going too slow as well

Yeah I can set an upper HR limit. But if I don't know my max HR yet then it'll be a bit inaccurate? With the 185 HR at the end of the 10k, I was pushing myself for about 300-350m. How close do you think I was to max?
FT7 is basically exactly the same as FT4 but can store 99 training files instead of less than 10 that the FT4 can hold, and other couple of minor features. But it was about £5 difference, and the FT7 had better colours so yeah.. haha.
