playing GRAW 2 with no physx card, but with effects!

“the one time i went to options and did the apply trick beffor loading the map it was like a slideshow for me too, but if you load the map beffor going to options and applying it works fine.”
Are you sure its working? It’s been a few weeks since I played but I am sure I had to change the option, quite the game and reload it to get the options to go active. You couldn’t change after map load as nothing activates. I was getting annoyed as I had to keep loading all the game to go though the options.

In fact I am starting to wonder if this tweak works or if it only gives you the option ticked but not on. You cannot tell from the first screenshot. Going have to try it tonight.

How can you guarantee that? What do you know something we don’t? So far all but 1 of the PPU main effects have never been done on the CPU and the one that has, put the CPU down to single digits and that was cloth.

You seem to be acting like you got GRAW 2 working on the CPU with the PPU effects. Well you haven’t none of the PPU new effects work out of large list of effects. All you did was increase the particle count but we all know the CPU can do particles.

Still I hope you do pull it off so we can do fair benchmarking between the PPU and CPU.

Not picking at you personally and It's completely off topic anyway but how come you don't use the Quote function?

Very old habit that’s become part of my writing style. I have been posting like this for over 10 years. Back in the day when you had to type [quote ]text text text[\quote ] instead of pressing a button. How forums have changed over time.

Apart form habit the 2nd reason is I find it easier to read like this when there’s 3+ quotes in a post.

Strangely no one said anything for the first 3 to 5years of posting like his on this forum. Only the past few years people have commented. Wondering if there was a slight blue colour change to the background at some point.

Hehe, makes no difference to me mate continue doing whatever works best :)

There was a forum crash I think back in the day and all the accounts were b0rked.

On topic - it will be so funny reading back over these threads in three years when PPUs have become essential kit for the gamer.

couple of things youve said here got me...

one, i can ALMOST garuntee, key word there, almost, read it.

second, i have found a way to enable it in the single player campaign, so it appears that all the cards effects do is add more particle effects in the single player game. by this logic, it means that you have bought a £100 card, to play the ageia island level in this game.

if you notice the settings tweaked have nothing to do whatsoever with the particle amounts/limit, those can be tweaked elsewhere in other settings files across the games data directories. check on tweak town if you must.

i tell you what, il take a screenshot of me blowing up a car POINT BLANK. you take the same screenshot with your ppu, and we can compare, kay?

ouch i never even knew they were that much

and here is where the file is in xp:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2\Settings\profiles\(your name)\settings.xml

and there are 2 lines to change, they are:

<has_physx value="false" />
<physics value="0" />

change them to 'true' and either '1' for high physics or '2' for extreme

and here is a screenshot i JUST took with the physics on extreme:

cheers, wow that looks impressive, also must admit the ageia level looks pretty sweet as well, for anybody who has'nt seen it is motion,

I do have to say though I still think the cpu will struggle with a few effects the ppu seems to be able to handle very easily like the cloth effect for example, also if you are able you play the physX level I'm not sure how well the cpu will handle those wind calculations, have a feeling it could grind down to single frames like with the cloth effect, I could be wrong though.

if/when i find the way to enable it ill let everyone know.

edit: there is also another 'trick' i think, that can enable a couple of the ageia only effects in cellfactor, like the proper cloth effects. searching google brought up a couple of threads about people discussing. cant do it myself though as i uninstalled that 'game' a while back

Yes that’s true the PPU does very little in the single player campaign apart from give a performance boost while doing the extra particle’s.

It’s disappointing they didn’t add all the Ageia island effects into single player. But it doesn’t bother me to much, not a big fan of GRAW don’t have the full game yet. Though I might borrow it of my brother just to try out the Ageia island level. Only watched videos so far

No need your right it works. I take my comments back about not being sure the tweak works. I think a few people are activating the tweak wrong so it’s not working. But it does work from what I have seen. Unless the full game is different from the demo you have to apply extreme physics before you entering the level.

EDIT:
“edit: there is also another 'trick' i think, that can enable a couple of the ageia only effects in cellfactor, like the proper cloth effects.”
It should be enabled by default in the newest beta demo and full game. Search for Cellfactor revolution.

EDIT2: Ergonomics what where the FPS dueing that explosion in the screenshot? Does the CPU get the same short split second drop as the PPU? At least I assume GRAW2 still has that drop with the PPU.

No need to fraps it I am sure it’s the same thing. There seems to be drop when the extra graphics assists are loaded in. Made a copy of your post at futuremark.yougamers.com figure the more people that see this the better.

fair enough, thankyou

edit: it would be worth mentioning though that they have to start a game, THEN apply the changes, otherwise it will either CTD or turn into a slideshow.

about 8-9fps slow down at 1280x1024 8xaa and 16xaf.

turn down shadows and it runs perfectly.

I would still get a physx card though, might as well get some fps bonuses, as most of the games I play are physx enabled.
