Playing Half Life 2 for the first time

Installed CM 13 recently so i think its finally time to play the episodes! One thing i noticed was the npc faces seemed a bit bright and shiny, maybe i nesd to turn certain settings on and off!

I basically want it as close to vanilla as possible but just updated subtly but to an extent that it feels modern, which tbh it still holds up ok anyway!

So basically original weapons, soundtrack and npc appearances
 
Are any of you using the iron sights which is part of the mod? It totally changes this game. I started again with the mod installed on hardest difficulty and it is hard! Headshots are now 1 shot 1 bullet and enemies die but its so much better having the difficulty from the mod too. Looks great also, pistol now has a red dot laser sight too.

Also the ingame AA is not that good and jaggies are still present. I used a custom flag in Nvidia inspector 4xMSAA + 4xSGSSAA...used a negative LOD of -1000 to eliminate blur and it looks amazing. Using of 2.2GB of GPU RAM.

Custom flag is already set for FF Mod all you need to do is add the .exe to the profile.
 
just downloaded goldeneye source which is sort of a mod for this, its bloody GREAT! although there wasn't many people playing just now but might be the time of day :)

Also I cant for the life of me get HL2VR working on the vive. pink screen galore

Yep, makes the game so much more in-depth and engaging. You do need the new weapon models though for it to "work".
 
I haven't played any of the Half Life games, and I have them all in my steam from a sale.

If I need a change from HOMM VI, I will give them all a go :D

What do you mean new models? I find it works fine as it is unless im missing something??

Youve missed an amazing gaming experience, ive been playing games since 1980, ive had loads opf computers and consoles, used to be in the Arcades every week pumping mnoney into the best games. Ive seen it done it got the T-Shirt.

Trust me Half Life is one experience you do not want to miss, its rare for me to say that because i get fed up of AAA titles quite easily when everyone else is raving about them. Dont play Half Life 1 play the Black Mesa mod instead which remasters it.

For what it's worth, I tried it again the other day and it worked fine, so maybe worth you giving it another shot.

Is the Cinematic Mod worth playing over the HL2 update? I fancy a blast through HL again as I've not played it in years!

I've played both and although I thought the official update made a reasonable difference, I'd take the CM over it any day.
 
Every time I see a thread on this I want to play again. Best games of all time.

Did they ever finish Black Mesa? I remember playing the first part years ago but haven't heard anything since.
 
If you have a look at their dev site, they're actually looking to massively expand Xen rather than just remodel that section of the game. Looks quite ambitious (as the entire project has been).
 
It finishes before you go to Xen. That was as much of the original game as was any good, so hopefully they'll sort out Xen and make it actually worth playing.

I played Black Mesa up to halfway through Surface Tension and then got stuck as it would crash every time I hit a certain point, so I gave up. I might be able to fix it, but I can't really be arsed.
