Hi, first post :D

Anyway Every year our school holds a 'help week' which is basically a fund raising event for 2 charities and the computing department does their bit by hosting a NFS game and letting people play it over LAN.
So anyway the department recently got new computers and i asked the tech guy who I know if we could maybe get something like Unreak Tournament going and have mini tournaments etc for the up coming 'Help Week'.
Anyway I was told i would need to find out about licensing issues etc for nay games we would play, so as not to infringe on the rules.
So my question is to you fellow overclockers - what game can i get away with running on about 32 computers, legally, using only one copy.

Thanks

The only games that you'll be able to do that with are freeware games. I'm trying to think of some old games that might be suitable that have been released for free but I can't think of any.

I suppose there's a slight possibility of a developer/publisher sponsoring the event since it's for charity but there's not much chance of that happening.

google a game called warsow similar to quake MP and unreal tourney MP very simple game but if you play it properly it is amazing computer specs dont have to be great to run this well.

Excllent game i also recommend it to any FPS 'pros' this game when play properly is fast and furious.

It is free and easy to run!

Isn't Quake III now free? I swear the source code etc was opened up...

The source code was released for free but not the game content.

Forgot about ET. If you want to do things completely legit, ET is pretty much your only choice.

Source code releases typically only relate to the actual game code - the content is still copyrighted. So while it's perfectly legal to compile and distribute new executables of games like Quake3, it is NOT legal to distribute the game content such as sounds, textures, maps and so forth.

FWIW there are some games which allow you to spawn multiple multiplayer installations from a single cd, I've got a feeling Warcraft II might have been one of them.

think something like doom shareware allowed multiplayer? Try home of the underdogs website.

Also - you want something like a FPS as you can hot seat, rather than having someone sitting there for 30 mins or whatever like on an RTS - keep it quick flowing so others can join in and drop out without affecting the game too much.

The UT demos are pretty good with a few maps to have a blast on, I remember I could play it for weeks ^^

Enemy Territory is also a must have.

If the computers are really good, you could try the BF2 demo on Oman and have a war :)

Just download the unreal tournament demo and play that.

We used to play that everyday in computing against each other was great fun, pity I ended up with a C instead of an A :(

Edit: to slow

I'm pretty sure that the original Half-Life (pre-steam disc version) allowed you to connect quite a few people over LAN with the same cd-key/wonid. I remember because my uni did a similar LAN that they wanted to keep legit.

Also, Starcraft allows you to install 8 spawn copies of the game that you can connect to each other only with. :)
