This is a bit awkward as the problem isn't associated with me but rather my brother so bare with me. He has just bought a Panasonic DMP-BD 35 and a HD camcorder - Canon HF10. He simply wants to be able to burn an untouched m2ts file and run it through the blu ray player. Hes tried burning a few files to a DVD disc but then the player doesn't detect the files. Does he need to buy a blu-ray burner and burn them straight to BR discs in order for them to be detected? Obviously he can put his SD card into the back of the blu-ray player but thats only 16gb and he wants to be able to store his videos.

II think the panasonic can play them without converting them, but you have to burn them to disc using a compatible program. imgburn maybe. I think the disc needs a specific structure for the player to read them, you cant just dump the files on on like with dvds. Im not sure about home made hd stuff, but i think it needs a bdmv folder and a certificate folder (and some other stuff). It should play from a dvd if the file structure is right.
EDIT: this appears to be what you need to do, its a bit heavy on the technical side though http://www.elurauser.com/articles/avchd_to_bluray.jsp

Not sure if this is any help: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_mkv_to_avchd_for_ps3_and_blu-ray_page_2.cfm

The PS3 plays M2TS files perfectly from its internal hard drive or an external USB hard drive/memory stick. I have the PlayTV which records in the M2TS format. Not sure how it deals with an M2TS on a disc though, I would suspect it would only play with the correct disc structure (could be wrong, it plays DivX files straight from a DVD but not Xvid).
