Posted in motors about this but i guess here may be more appropriate. I tried playing some mp3's over bluetooth from my E51 to car kit and it sounds quite poor. Is that just the way it is with bluetooth or could it be the phone? I know the mp3's are fine.... it a bury 9060 btw

Music over analogue versions of bluetooth will always sound crap - the audio transmission systems in bluetooth are very heavily biased towards speech.

Digital versions of bluetooth (v2.1 and newer afaik) ought to fix it.

Yeah A2DP. i've actually never listened to an mp3 on the E51 with headphones as i never had a 2.5mm adaptor, and you can hardly judge from the speaker lol - maybe music playback is just poor on it.... can anyone confirm or deny?

a2dp on my blackberry and kenwood HU isnt bad. if i had to compare it, i'd say it say about level with 128k-160k lame mp3 on most material. certainly listenable.

you'll have to try another phone to work out whether it's the phone or the HU causing the problems.

If it sounds quite poor it might be because it's pumping the sound using the headset profile instead of A2DP maybe? Longshot and I presume you ruled it out but I'm mentioning it just incase as Nokia's default to the headset profile for everything under the sun from my experience.
