Playing with a cooling idea.

What about, still on the mini fridge idea, mounting the radiator for a water-cooling rig inside a mini fridge? If you took something like the ThermalTake Bigwater 745 and had one of the rads mounted in your case and the other in a mini-fridge would the mini-fridge be able to cope with that? Would the mf actually help the rad cool the water any further and would there be a noticeable drop in CPU/GPU temps?

Anyway, it's just a thought.

Move to Scotland and stick your rad outside. :D

It's bloody freezing up here. Only 2degrees outside. Got my window open and getting some awesome low temps. 22 system, 25 cpu, 34&38 for the graphics cards and thats all on air.

Not sure that the aquarium chiller would work either. They are also very expensive, £500+ for a good one. I keep fish and my tanks run at 24/25/26 (3 tanks) degrees but thats constant. It's not like a pc where the load is varying all the time. As the water goes through the chiller you would'nt need a rad but i doubt if it would last very long with the temps a pc can produce.

If you hate them so then don't take part, fairly simple really. No-one forced you to read, or post for that matter. All this is is a bunch of people floating different ideas around, hell, you might even get a brainwave of your own.

Fully MeddlE, I second that.

Lets keep the negitivity away - didn't your mother ever tell you, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all!".

everyone starts out a noob... even you!

For what it's worth - I agree with the 'stick it outside' principle. Where I am in Northumberland, atm it's snowing!

Average post quotient in this thread sums up its contents.
Excuse me? We are summing up people and the validity of their views by their number of posts now are we? Some of us have other things to do you know.

How many of your 3330 posts consist of pointless, negative and unwanted comments in threads that you are not interested in.

What a contribution!

By the way, ever heard of the old adage 'quality not quantity'? One of these has been notably lacking from your posts in this thread.

one other problem with the freezer idea is the humidity, you would need an air dryer to ensure the frost point is lower enough.

there are compressures that dryer and chill air for machine rooms etc. dont think they are cheap though.

I hate these threads. Does no-one ever Search anymore?
Now, now Mike - go have a nice cup of tea and this nightmare will all be over :D :p. Tea will revive you :).

taken from the forum this morning.. I don't mind people having crazy ideas god knows I've had enough of my own but I just think if it's going to be a community you have to behave like a community and CONTRIBUTE to each others threads by seeing if someones already started one with your topic rather than just starting your own.. like the 2 first time overclock threads there... both covering the same stuff..

How many of the more experienced overclockers are going to post in both threads?

I've seen those cases too The $6m Dan... My brother bought a LandRover 110 which had I think two spare massive 12V fans... Might just try it sometime! :D

Sure I remember reading something about air pressure and fans..

Something like you need positive movement through the case to feed cold and remove warm hence the front to back people normally use.

I have my doubts that huge fan will be very effectinve, after all you'll need your exhaust fans on full blast to ehaust the air (because your case can't expand like a balloon) or the fan will be making a bunch of noise and doing not very much.

Just my 2p

(and another 2p free! It looks bloody awful and what happens if it breaks after a year? Not seen many 25cm fans for sale)

The thread title STANK of mini fridges. Listen mate I was JUST as adamant about this and that it would work. Read up though and it's very clear that you'll end up with either

A) A very poor cooler

or

B) you'll kill a fridge.

Z.

If you have a large fan pushing a high volume of air into a case you should be creating positive pressure within the case which will in itself cause the air to exit the case where it can.

However, I think that a large fan like this could create some problems. Firstly, the large fan could negate the airflow from a front fan pushing air over hard disks etc. Secondly, the airflow from the fan would probably be an undirected turbulent mess.

I think both problems could be solved to some degree by ducting the airflow to the required areas, thereby leaving the airflow from the front fan alone and generating a general airflow direction within the case.

I suppose if we want to get very silly for a moment, you do not actually need the large fan within the case. It could be external, forcing air down a large bore duct or hose which could enter the case and be split into several directed streams. That does sound a bit strange, but I suppose it could work. You could even have the fan drawing colder air in from outside the room!

Mike indeed does have a point, ive seen so many of these threads labelled some thing like 'Crazy Cooling Idea'. Mike was probably one of the main contributers to helping me when i wanted to watercool.

If u get long enough tubing and a good pump u can put ** rad where u want, case side, out the window, underground etc. At the end of the day is doesnt matter as long as theirs cool air passing through the rad it really doesnt matter where it is. However having tubes comein all outta ** pc to a big hench rad wont look very nice or be that pratical.

The benifit from having external airflow to the rad without it being in the case will mean that air temps in the case wont be affected at all. If u want a real good cooling system external to ** case then build a radbox or somming, my temps dropped 10C when i took all my watercooling outta my case and wakked it in my radbox, doesn even look that ghetto.

what temps are u getting at the moment on what cpu

Well right this moment my cpu is sitting at 36C, its pretty cool in my room at the mo and my case is at 34C. After about 4 hours of counter-strike i come out at 41-44C recently. Thats with rad fans at 7 volts, infact the 12volt option on my fan bus is broke but 7 is enough plus 12volts it loud.

Im quite impressed to be honest cause my gfx card is oced as well as my clawhammer and my temps didnt really change much from the oc even when i upped voltages.

All about a rad box :)

Look here mate

Documentation of my temps setup etc.
