Playstation 3 games with AA

Quite a lot of games do. The question should be, what doesn't support AA? Those tend to attract the most vocal criticisms, making it seem like a widespread problem.

The ps3 version on the darkness as no AA at all, fight night, although looks good, doesnt really have any i dont think, motorstorm might have 2x, but i can still notice lots of jaggies,

I'm unsure as to where i read it, But it stated Oblivion is with AA, but without HDR.

Apparently the graphics Processor in the PS3 isnt capable of both, And the Devs chose AA.

That said, I cant find the source again :p

Think people only say it cant as its based on the 7900, if you look at Heavenly Sword that uses both AA and HDR. I always thought the 7900 can do HDR and AA, but only if its integer based like in Half Life 2.

True, it is possible if done like HL2

TBH, I doubt the games that have been released have any form of AA, I still notice some jaggies at 1080p

I don't think you need AA when you're playing games @ 1080P on a compatible TV to be honest - obviously the game has to support this resolution. If you can still see them then the games have either been developed badly which is the case for a handful of PS3 games / ports right now or you're probably sitting too close to your telly lol.

a lot of problems creep in though when you play at 1080i on tvs that can only do 768 lines - the TVs internal scaler has to cope with this and they generally dont do a very good job and cause lots of jaggies themselves. 720p might be better in some cases although you're losing resolution anyway - you just choose whats best looking for your own individual setup.

The higher the resolution the more likely you would be to notice them wouldn't you? Especially as the native resolution is 720p.

Downloaded the demo of Darkness last night. The lack of AA was rather noticeable.

I played it last week - didn't notice anything myself. Like I said earlier - it may be down to your setup.

Maybe I was a bit harsh, I said I can notice them when running at 1080p (or 720p if a game runs at that) but they are not really that noticable when playing normally.

I did see that shadow edges are very blocky, in Motorstorm for instance, which is a GPU limitation I think as I noticed the same thing on the PC with a 7800GT and 8800GTS in 3DMark'05 on the flying ship.

It's not.

Well you must be good mates with Bonjour then as you know what his / her setup is :D

I've played it on 3 types of tv during the past week and have not noticed any bad jaggies and I'm a pc gamer too using an 8800gts on a 19" lcd so I'm used to quality output.

Of course though - I'm actually playing the game rather than writing a detailed critical review - it could be that.

its definatly not, the darkness has more jaggies than a ps1 game lol.

Sony are stupid putting in a gpu basied on a 7800, they put all this money into this so called 'advanced' cell thing, but put in an ancient gpu.

Both versions of the Darkness, on my HDTV. 720p. You do not need to write a critical detailed review to see the differences.

I'm never gonna see the differences on my setup as I only have one platform. I'll just be happy with what I've got. I didn't particularly enjoy the Darkness anyway so I'll just stick with the demo and try and avoid poor ports.

Now - Heavenly Sword - a different matter altogether in the visual department - the demo is brill and I'm looking forward to it a great deal :D

Nothing to do with set up, it's just a terribly jaggy game. :).

More jaggies than a PS1 game ? - a bit far fetched but I see what you're getting at ;) . I've played it and it doesn't seem that bad to me to be honest.

I also don't believe that its down to the gpu. I think it's sloppy development / porting otherwise all similar PS3 games would be as jaggie as the Darkness and they're certainly not.

It might not be the most advanced GPU available today but for a console it is powerful enough.

And calling it ancient is a bit OTT, you cannot compare it with current PC GPU's as Sony had to make a decision a while back before the 8800 cards were released.

With the Darkness I guess it is more a case of laziness on the developers side than a hardware limitation.
