Unlikely imo, They know most people wanting .mkv will be wanting to watch ripped blu-rays (you know its true)

Just to teach Sony a lesson for charging me to go online, ive thrown my PS3 into the bath whilst plugged in.
That stops them getting my £39.99 plus at the same time I can buy a new PS3 slim and have the benefits of a new console.
They didnt think of that did they when they released PSN Plus

But buying a slim is equal to 6 years subscription.

No, as long as it’s the master account, the sub accounts should be able to play the “majority” of the games.

You get automatic firmware updates, that's the difference.

No, automatic firmware updating is part of the Plus package. I.E. You don't need to manually go to System Update.
You don't have to do that anyway, a message pops up when you sign into PSN and says a firmware update is available then gives you the option to update, it's always been that way.

But it doesn't auto turn on the console, update, then switch itself off.

Yeah. Needs the Remote Access option enabled though.
Im not sure does PlayTV use this? or another way as that wakes up the PS3 when required. Pretty sure it didt need to be like that as remote access monitors the wifi to see if there is a signal from the PSP to switch on, this will just use the internal clock.

So the PS3 will pre-download a sort of schedule for when the update hits?
I dunno thats why i asked lol, by the sounds of it you set a time you want it to wake up and then it searches downloads then goes to sleep again. Im not sure if it will notify you and say your PS3 will download x updates when its ready, guess ill find when i try it out lol.
