Hi all,

I was browsing around and found a place selling new PS3s for £344 (60gb version)... you reckon this is a good deal or its expected to go lower?

It's a decent price, whether it's a good deal in terms of value is still down to the individual buyer.

The potential is always there for further price cuts, either official or from certain retailers.

I don't know, if £425 is far too expensive (which it seems to be for a lot of people) is £344 really that much of a saving?

The difference between them is a night out.

Hardly, a night's out rarely costs me more than £10 and never more than £30 :p... prices are slightly different for a night's out here in Malta! Also the cheapest PS3 in Malta was @ £499 before this so I'm thinking its a good deal... are the blu ray functions of the PS3 really very good? Are they "future proof"?

Yeah but the price of a game isn't even the same as a night out yet people complain they are too expensive :p
At £344 it's ~£50 saving over most places - if the 360 suddenly had a £50 price cut, taking the RRP from £279 to £229, people would be snapping them up.

So yeah, I think it's a good saving but it's still a lot of money. But then I can't see the RRP coming down any lower than that this year - I would expect it to come down to £349 in time for Xmas but that's it.

It is a good price at the moment. Whether and when it will be cheaper, who knows. Arguably it isn't a good time to buy one yet as there are so few must have exclusive games out for the PS3.

£344 would be a bargain IF there were good enough games out at the moment, due to there not being then some people may still think this is expensive.

RESEARCH! We're not going to do all your leg-work for you!

I'm not forcing you to.. I asked a question if you don't want to answer it fine, don't, don't post stupid comments in my thread though.

i would say 399 is the average price for a new ps3 not many places still have them at 425.

i want one but it just doesn't have the catalogue to warrant it yet, my mate has just sold his wii for a ps3 so if theres anything iam really desperate to play i would just pull the 'i saved your life when you were 7' card.

its a top price at the moment, can't see it coming down lower this year, and ther are some great games coming out for it this year. I hope.

Although I'm sure I'd end up playing games on it what pulls me more towards buying it is more the fact that its one of the cheapest blu-ray players! That said most upcoming releases I want are coming out on HD-DVD ! Coupled with a player like PowerDVD 7, would the Xbox HD DVD addon play the movies via the PC? Is an HDCP card needed for this?

I beleive you will need a copy of PowerDVD 7.0 Ultimate and an HDCP compliant GPU and screen. Although there is a company that produces and sells a program which can get around the need for HDCP compliant equipment.

Been thinking about getting the XBox 360 HD-DVD drive as well and using that via my PC.

It would be good to have both formats.

For some reason I think it will be £349.99 for Christmas and £300 around next summer. Could be a couple of years before it's significantly below £300 though.
